It appears that the fourth episode of Series 1 (or the mini-series) Winds of Vengeance was not shown by BBC TV in the UK, nor in Germany, during the original run.

Was the content of the episode particularly sensitive or unsuitable for family viewing?

It definitely covers a sensitive subject and can be quite uncomfortable to watch, but I'd still consider it to be PG-13 like the rest of the show. I'm surprised that it was excluded in the UK, as I had always heard their TV regulations weren't as strict as in the US. The episode may cause some second-hand embarrassment, but it's certainly not explicit.

The novelized version is much worse... In Lee Raintree's book Sue Ellen is sexually abused in front of the family...

And if JR didn't have them killed, Jock had better not referred to Gary as the weak son ever again. Come to think about it, JR should have made it his mission to find those two after they humiliated his wife. After all, he had no qualms about finding Valine.

Maybe it's because it's one of the worst episodes, and its omission doesn't affect continuity.

It does sit rather oddly in those first five. When they were first broadcast in Australia it was over three nights. I can't remember which night was only one hour but it was probably this one. The other four do make a good two-part movie without it.

I thought it was one of the best episodes of the entire series. The cinematography was almost theater quality, particularly the outside scenes of the hurricane. I also liked that JR and Lucy actually took some responsibility on the ranch.
