I've started Season 5 for the first time, so I figured I'd share random, disorganized thoughts as I go.

Please NO SPOILERS. I am pretty much unspoiled for most that happens from now on.

After watching "The Phoenix," I have to admit it was much better than I expected. I quite enjoyed it. The news report catching us up on the last six weeks was silly but effective. I had no idea Maggie would have amnesia. I think it works great considering the state of her marriage right before and the drama that it can bring. Melissa in the jail cell is so ridiculous but it's FALCON CREST so I'm good with it. Same with Lance's grief. The Jordan Roberts stuff was so random. She's a lawyer I guess and dresses like she's supposed to be on the runway and it all doesn't make much sense but it's Morgan Fairchild so I'll go along with it. The most pleasant surprise of all was how the retcon/reveal of Julia having Dominic Rossini's child fit in so nicely into the Cassandra story. I knew of the Father that becomes part of the cast in this season but had no idea he was Julia's supposed stillborn. Fun! Still, I really miss the gothic element to the show that suddenly went away on the last third of Season 4.

I wouldn't get your hopes up with this season. I only watched it once, and gave up a few episodes into a re-watch. For me it turns into faceless 80s trash this year, but that is only my view. The cliffhanger is fun though.

I quite liked this season mainly because they introduced 2 great new characters, one of which became a main cast member (I'm trying to avoid giving spoilers). On the negative side we saw one of the worse characters for the first time. Maggie has a great storyline which ran through most of the season and even Emma has a reasonably prominent storyline for a change.

It's hard to explain what I really liked and disliked about the season without giving away what happens but it's far from the best season of Falcon Crest but it was still very watchable.

The mid season of the entire series is just about okay, compared to what followers were used to with FALCON CREST. There is a lot of stuff happening, with Morgan Fairchild's storyline a major part. A character is introduced who forum members don't have a lot of time for. Imho she added more youthful appeal, in her limited time. I felt participation from Julia always helped the show and Emma is a highlight, this season.

Flamingo Road colleagues (David Selby & Morgan Fairchild) do it again, in FC season 5.

Richard is waiting for his lawyer to arrive. A very glamorous woman is waiting outside the front of his new mansion, (a scene from season 5, 1985 – ’86):

Jordan: “Hello Mr. Channing.”

Richard: “Who are you? I was expecting J.J. Roberts.”

Jordan: “I am J.J. Roberts. Jordan Jennifer Roberts. My father didn’t want to work for you.”

I dunno
Season 5 is actually pretty low on my seasonal rankings - maybe only above seasons 1 and 7 really.

With that said, it's not the worst but I tend to agree that it goes a bit... basic soap for lack of better description. It feels a bit like they're throwing tropes at the wall and hoping something sticks; it's obvious that the network interference from the previous season really put the show off balance. I can definitively see why they choose to take in a new showrunner for season 6 as it was needed.

In my opinion season 5 is the weakest of the first five seasons, but the strongest of the last five seasons.

@JROG, this season is one of my favorites and there´s a bit of everything. About the gothic element, I thought that Cassandra´s storyline was quite gothic with Mama Anna being one of the most gothic characters ever. The look of Fairchild was what they used to lure her to the role as you can hear in a YouTube interview from her (glossy) lips. It´s clearly the role of a lifetime to her. One of the things I liked of this season is that it seems to be changing course often, giving us surprises (the usual was dividing the season in two halves). Of course there is filler but nothing compared to Jenna, Charlie and April from "Dallas"! I´m not ashamed to say that 4 to 6 are my favorite seasons.

I was going to Europe on a Wednesday and the week before they Colin offered me Falcon Crest and I I really didn't think the deal was going to work and I knew they started shooting on Monday and Friday afternoon I still haven't heard anything back and so I assumed that they had passed and gone on to someone else and Monday afternoon about four o'clock the producer column said well we're giving a seven o'clock offer tomorrow morning and I said wait and I don't have a contract or wardrobe or a script or anything I can't shoot at seven o'clock tomorrow I had nothing to wear so I said well how about two o'clock and I'll let you go shopping in the morning so that's what we did so it was sort of very last-minute I was leaving for Europe on Wednesday the trip got canceled and I started on Tuesday
I've watched it occasionally because I have friends on it David Selby had done let me go surrounded with me and Bob Foxworth and I had worked together before either of us were on these shows and so and I used to shoot very close to us on when we were doing Flamingo Road so I knew people in the cast and the invisitech whatever watched it once in a while to see friends but I wasn't up to date I wasn't real at either it sort of came about very suddenly I was going to Europe on a Wednesday and the week before they Colin offered me Falcon Crest and I really didn't think the deal was going to work and I knew they started shooting on Monday and Friday afternoon I still haven't heard anything back and so I assumed that they had passed and gone on to someone else and Monday afternoon about four o'clock the producer column said well we're giving a seven o'clock offer tomorrow morning and I said wait and I don't have a contract or wardrobe or a script or anything I can't shoot at seven o'clock tomorrow I had nothing to wear so I said well how about two o'clock and I'll let you go shopping in the morning so that's what we did so it was sort of very last-minute I was leaving for Europe on Wednesday the trip got canceled and I started on Tuesday

The white suit with the red hat was bought by Morgan. It was not created by the Lorimar costume department

I've done up to "Blood Brothers" and really enjoying it so far. I did not expect the truth about Christopher to come out quite so quickly, but I suppose FALCON CREST lives or dies based on how it is able to move the plot along.

Just as I suspected, Melissa and Christopher may go all Thorn Birds on us and I find it delicious. I hope they deliver on this. I wanna sleep with Father Christopher too. There is something so appealing about how quickly and completely Melissa loses it every time she sees Robin. Ana-Alicia is selling the hell out of it.

I have to laugh a little bit at Cesar Romero as a Greek shipping magnate but I'm excited to finally get to see the character, who I know of.

Jordan's still sitting around unsuccessfully giving Richard advice. I don't know why I'm so irritated by this. I suppose it's Morgan Fairchild so I'm hoping for more, but mostly I see they haven't bothered to develop a shred of personality for her. It's ALL about the look so far, it's all so very DYNASTY in a way not even DYNASTY did.

Maggie's amnesia surprisingly remains a winner. I just love Susan Sullivan, Foxworth, and Selby playing off of each other. Maggie and Richard have SUCH chemistry - it's not hard to see why they couldn't resist this and they've done so well building up to it.

And I love love love Greg and Angela's dynamic. Greg: "Do you ever say goodbye before hanging up the phone?" Angela: "No." They're so funny!

The positive thing about Jordan is that she didn't take over the show as one might have assumed with a vixen like Morgan Fairchild. In season 6 there will be another blonde who the writers have no problem with making (most of) Falcon Crest all about her.

Overall, I quite enjoyed Season 5. Yes, it was much more basic than the gothic Seasons 1-4, but I thought it all came together quite nicely. Jordan's multiple personality story, lots of great stuff for Maggie with Wainright, Terry and Richard's marriage, Peter was enjoyable, the Earthquake... and, of course, Emma having her chance to shine as one of the season's highlights. The show very wisely wrote Apollonia out (although I did not HATE her) but very sadly Sexy Priest led to nothing. I know that was because of BTS reasons, but what a huge disappointment. Ken Olin was HAWT.

Terry and Richard's marriage was a lot of fun that year. I had forgotten about that. They had good chemistry and played the comedy element well too. I would have kept Terry and Julia on for season 6, if I had been the producer.

Yes, at first it seemed a bit random but they earned it with how much fun, full of chemistry, and downright funny it often was! And, honestly, of course Terry would end up with the next available rich man!
