Hard to believe it was 23 years ago - that fateful day

In loving memory of those who lost their lives on that fateful day, when islamic terrorists crashed into the Twin towers in New York. And also the Pentagon and a field near Shanksville

To the armed services, Police, Fire, Medical etc who helped and some who sadly lost their lives too, it is a day that is etched in my mind forever and will never be forgotten and cant be forgotten. And all in the name of religion.

I was due to go to NY city for the first time 4 days later, I never got there, but was determined to visit the following year and have been back many times since. NYC and its people rock

I remember this Forum as Ultimate Dallas that day and it was so busy with some wonderful tributes.

I was pressure washing my house with my father, when I got the first rumblings from my sister-in-law in Georgia; we didn't know what was happening at first, but then all became clear as it played out.

I remember waking up that day and hearing about it on the radio. I was a senior in high school at the time, and every class I was in had the TV tuned in to the coverage of it.

It may be cliche to say, but the world really did change forever on that day. May all of the victims rest in peace.

In the UK, there was a positive vibe in the 1990s, end of the Soviet era, Berlin wall coming down, the world seemed like a safer, progressive place to be.
But overnight 9/11 changed all that. The fact that there were now suicide bombers willing to take loads of innocents with them, made places like London seem even scarier than it had been during the IRA period, as we saw in the London bombings in 2005 (thanks mainly to Blair & Bush of course). Sadly the world has become a more dangerous and divided place ever since.

And progressives and conservatives are at cross purposes, and I wish they weren't.

There was that same very positive feeling in the United States as well at the time. I was a child at the time, but I remember how before 9/11, there was a distinctly carefree feeling in the country. 9/11 obliterated that nearly 10 year period of positivity. It was suddenly all too clear how much danger there really was.

Growing up in the 1990s we had the same positive view of the world in Sweden after the Berlin wall fell and Europe was united once again. Except for the war in ex-Jugoslavia it felt like we were living in a relatively peaceful and safe world.

but the world really did change forever on that day. May all of the victims rest in peace.

I feel the same way. That was the wake up call of our generation and the world did change for the worse that day. :(

I’ll never forget that morning. Saying the world changed forever that day seems like such a cliche now but there’s really no other phrase that sums it up better. When I think of these attacks it just feels like so much longer than only 23 years ago for some reason.

The first thing I remember is walking into a bookstore that morning and seeing a bunch of people standing around watching a television set at the very back of the store. I had no idea what I was watching at first as it didn’t even seem possible at the time that this could happen. Call me naive I guess.

I remember trying to call up to New York to talk to my family but all the circuits were jammed for hours. Found out later I lost a cousin that day but another relative survived so there was some reason to be thankful at least.

Our hearts will always be with the 3,000 innocent victims and their families. They will never be forgotten for the sacrifice they made on that tragic day.
