Should we have eventually found out that Alexis masterminded the Rita situation...

@Snarky - Wow. Text book Dynasty Soap Chat answer! Thank you for that beautiful quotation.
As I weren't around in full, I don't know any of the "buzz" surrounding the show in its hay days.

Off Topic: But how couldn't Miles recognize Fallon as Blake Carrington's daughter when Fallon comes to see him as Randall? Both the young Colbys and Carringtons must have had appeared in the tabloids on a regular basis, and being involved with Jeff, the Colbys most logical know what Fallon looks like. And when Fallon disappears/is presumed dead, how on earth couldn't this info. be known to the Colby family, if only through the papers?

TPTB must have had something planned with Ben and the brotherly plot line, as Blake begins to hint at Ben and what he did to their mother - early on. Constance also brings up the matter when meeting Blake at the pipeline-party.
This is actually the first time a plot line in the horizon is even mentioned before it is suppose to begin.

I never said anything about Krystle. However, Alexis never would have let Rita poison Blake or abuse L.B., etc. Never.
Obviously, the more heinous details would be put in place by someone else. allowing plausible deniability for Alexis.

They could've had Alexis hiring Joel to "mess with" Krystal and having no direct links to Rita. She might have not known exactly how Krystle was going to be messed with, just that it was going to get done.

Alexis even seemed genuinely upset when she found out that Ashley had been killed in the massacre, so I still don’t think that she would do anything to actually harm anyone on purpose.....well, except that little horse riding accident thingy....

Well, Joan would agree with you. But that left nothing for Alexis to do except snap "get out of my office!" and drag Blake into court once a year.

I still say make Krystle's kidnapping the result of a plot between DYNASTY's hetero Leopold & Loeb in-waiting pairing, Adam and Sammy Jo -- with Alexis perhaps finding out about it or, later, Adam trying to frame his mother as complicit (or more complicit as she was).

As for Joel Abrigore? I dunno. Maybe he could be a shifty doctor who helped out or somethin'...

Didn't Adam already do that with the Jeff-poisoning thing? I can see Alexis forgiving her son doing that once, but twice? ...Not unless she never found out Adam tried to frame his mother all over again?

Linda started out delivering her lines with a husky, earthbound voice which people liked. Over time, she took on a falsetto tone which people didn't like -- but it could have been very useful for Rita had Krystle not long-since slipped into it already.

Rita: "You're shrill and squeaky!"
Krystle: "You're shrill and squeaky!"
Rita: "How dare you!"
Krystle: "How dare you!"
Rita: "I'll kill you...!"
Krystle: "I'll kill you...!"
Rita: "Eeeeeeeeeeeee..!!"
Krystle: "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!"

I've noticed that, and I agree with the people on both.
Her voice feels fake in later seasons.

I just posted this on another thread, but here goes...

How about if Joanna Cassidy played Rita in Season 6 of DYNASTY --- and no one really notices her differences from Krystle (like actually happened that year)? Or, Cassidy could play Krystle in the attic while Linda plays Rita at the mansion. Or, the two actresses could switch roles repeatedly, back and forth, throughout the run of the story arc. In a display of creative avant garde mania??

This idea is so bad that it might work. In any event, Rita needs to adopt a short, pixy haircut (regardless of who plays her).

"Rita" borders on science fiction (I've explained it away as a pre-Twin Peaks in a seperate thread) and I will admit that this is a cardinal sin in soap narrative.
It doesn't have to be believable but it needs to be possible even if the chance is almost zero.
It kinda makes sense that a storyline like this would end abruptly because you don't want to rub the audience's nose in it, which is exactly what they did with the Moldavia aftermath transported to Denver.
Therefore, rather than trying to impact the lives of the Carringtons with the memory of Rita but in a Rita-free universe I would have twisted it in a new plot for Sammy Jo.

The most obvious solution is that Sammy Jo would have orchestrated the rescue without getting involved, and once the evil scammers were gone, her awful family-in-law would be none the wiser. Except for Adam, who blackmails her into a marriage that works out surprisingly well and they could even tease us with a new custody battle (Adam's idea, for no other reason than to torture Steven).
Enter Montana high school sweetheart Dana and suddenly Adam is no longer interested in Sammy Jo, let alone Danny.
Furiously she vows revenge and teams up with Neal McVane for the Undoing Adam storyline, no matter how inconsequential that turns out to be.
It's just an example of continuing the story without the embarrassing reminder.

Having said that, the Hitchcockian attempt that resulted in "Rita" was very soapy, and they got some cracking scenes out of it. And with one actress replacing herself it almost looks like a subconscious, anarchistic statement against Dynasty's troubled re-cast issues.
And this was Sammy Jo's moment of super-villainy, there was no need for Alexis to steal Sammy Jo's thunder (and the good stuff that did happen in these episodes would no longer make sense).
Of course Alexis should find out that Sammy Jo was involved with Neal McVane's scheme - Neal informs her, gloatingly - except that she can't prove it. The Carringtons will simply refuse to believe Alexis' characteristic attack and Dex will be appalled by it. He protectively puts his arm around Sammy Jo's shoulders and says to Alexis "you wretched, vicious old woman. How dare you to accuse this poor, innocent young lady". And then the accident as it happened at the end of season 7.

The Rita situation showed that Alexis wasn’t „the smartest of them all” like Joan once said. She got the most clues of them all and couldn’t figure out that something about Krystle was wrong.
It would have been funny if Alexis still didn’t believe the whole scheme after its revelation.
Calling it a cheap soap opera story that Krystle and Sammy Jo made up to justify her affair with the „handsome doctor”. She would have been convinced to her theory after seeing no punishment for Sammy Jo who was forgiven by Krystle very quickly.

Y'know... that WOULD have been hilarious! And oddly fitting, too. Alexis would much rather believe that Krystle was just as much an adultery-ing slut as she was. Plus, it wouldn't take much to adjust a lot of her scenes to that: when she sends in the article to the newspaper about the incident, it's done with the intent of mocking Krystle's claim and trying to make her look like a liar.

I still like the idea of Alexis hiring a second double for Krystle to misbehave around downtown Denver to impugn Krystle's credibility about ever having an evil twin at all.

Oh, that Alexis -- she's just such a bitch!!
