Oh, it was perfect. (The real interior, of course, bears no resemblance).

Stags Leap as a place for the Gioberti castle was and still is beautiful. The shots of it up to the season 6 cliffhanger were always similar and of course such an important part of FC history faded into oblivion, when it was blown up early in season 7. I thought that was sad. I would have liked more actual exterior scenes, featuring the place.

A splendid spot.

Maggie, Vicki, Cole and Chase have moved from New York to the Tuscany Valley (1 hour away from San Francisco). They will be living in the old Gioberti castle, resided in by Chase's late father Jason,; (a scene from season 1, 1981 - '82):

Cole: "Hey dad you sure about this? This place looks a kinda run down."

Chase: "Well it is a kind of a 'fixer upper' but with a little work we'll get it into shape."

Gus (the chief grape harvester) walks up the drive: "Chase!"

Chase: "Gus how ya doin?"

They shake hands.

Maggie: "Hi Gus!"

Gus: "Maggie. Welcome to Falcon Crest!"

Chase: "Gus I'd like you to meet my daughter Vicki and my son Cole. Gus as been around here for a long time. If you listen to him you won't have any problems."

Gus: "It is great having you here Chase. Your father lived for this so much."

Stags Leap was such a distinctive setting, for the Gioberti home. It was so spectacular, particularly in season 4 I think when there was a big party for something.

Not sure what it is you are referring to in season 4.

The big parties at the Gioberti Estate were in seasons 2 (baby shower for Melissa), season 5 (the attempted renewal of Chase and Maggie's wedding vows) and season 6 (when Chase announced he bought the Agretti harvest and Maggie fainted).

The two mancaves set against those orange mountains were very important to the identity of FALCON CREST.
Yeah there’s just something about the setting. It’s got such a strong sense of location. Dallas had that as well but I never felt like I would love to visit that location - whereas there’s something about Falcon Crest and the Gioberti House - it actually reminds me of Spain in some ways - like you think it must be a good life out there. Dynasty has the mansion but not a strong sense of setting - Knots Landing had that coastal feel and it’s appealing as well but Falcon Crest feels luxurious yet rustic - it’s beautiful.

Yes, that was always a symptomatic weakness of DYNASTY -- there was very little sense of place or location. That was partly due to the fact that DYNASTY was the only one of the four shows which almost never shot on location (so they had to rely on stock footage and Second Unit material) and southern California spots which looked like it (e.g., Delta Carrington Rho Farms, Arden Villa). Made worse by DYNASTY lack of a sense of identity.

Southfork's mansion on DALLAS has an inviting, unpretentious look, but the terrain around it is vaguely depressing as if it's located in the middle of a gulch. (The grounds around The Southern Cross are much more attractive).

KNOTS had the L.A. beach right there.

During the first 3 or 4 seasons, FALCON CREST had the most organic, mysterious vibe, the Napa locations and the two main houses inextricable from what made it work. But after Bob McCullough was dumped in 1984, the show quickly lost what it originally had. Even the rural village soon became a bustling suburb. And the continued on-location filming failed to maintain the cozy atmosphere the program started out with, especially once the writing got too shlocky midway through.

Very lovely images of Stags Leap, in this thread. I was surprised when Travis' gang bombed it. Maybe budget cuts made it necessary, to contribute for all the guest star fees during the 7th season.
