It's been quite some time since we've done any Top Ten stuff around here so how about a one-off seasonal nomination/vote thingy throughout this month, based on....

For any newcomers: The idea is we all nominate songs we like based on the title/theme of the thread. We then check out each other's nominations and pick a favourite ten from their lists.

For this theme, we're limiting the song title ONLY to the 28 found in The Most Recorded Christmas Songs lists on this page (including the three extra songs in the "Unique artists" list). Although it's a fairly short list, there are thousands of versions of each song which should be enough for everyone's lists to look - and sound - different.

The songs are:

Silent Night

White Christmas

Jingle Bells

Winter Wonderland

Joy To The World

The First Noel

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

O Holy Night

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)

Away In A Manger

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

O Little Town Of Bethlehem

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

I’ll Be Home For Christmas

O Come All Ye Faithful

Deck The Halls

Silver Bells

Ave Maria

What Child Is This?

We Wish You A Merry Christmas

It Came Upon The Midnight Clear

Sleigh Ride

Blue Christmas

Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Angels We Have Heard On High

We Three Kings

Auld Lang Syne

Simply pick up to 20 of these titles, and nominate the version of each that you think is the best/most interesting/most Christmassy or that stands out in some way to make it special compared with the versions we know so well (but you can nominate those versions too, of course). Then post it below for our delectation.

Once nominations are all in, we'll then vote on our favourites from all the nominated songs.

Here's a recap (courtesy of our friendly neighbourhood @Ome) on how best to approach this and to help things run smoothly.

• Please list the nominated songs by title and then artist
• Please include a link to the video so others can listen to your nominated versions
• Please copy the list without the links and post it at bottom of your post
• Duplicates of other members' nominations are allowed, but won't be included when we take the vote
• 20 songs is the maximum, but less than 20 is fine

Once the nominations are complete, I will post the final list, and everyone can then check out all the nominated songs and vote for their favourite ten from other members' lists.

Everyone is welcome to join in and nominate 20 songs

The last day for nominations is:
WEDNESDAY 13TH DECEMBER

ENJOY

Great to have this back and I do love Christmas songs, so here are my 20 nominations:

EDIT: Sorry my nominations are spread over so many posts but I typed it all out before I realised I could only have 3 pieces of media per and it had already truncated all the YouTube video links so I couldn't just post the URLs. :embarrassed:

SECOND EDIT: I misread the instructions and had nominated different versions of the same song on a few occasions. I now edited my list so it now contains 20 versions of different songs. It's been I while since I participated in the song nominations thread which is my excuse for my mistakes. Hopefully, all is correct now.

THIRD EDIT: I didn't read the instruction that stated nominations should be for alternatives to the best known versions, so I've edited my list again. I think I have now got everything right.

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas - Hem

Pere Noel Arrive Ce Soir (Santa Claus Is Coming To Town) - Melissa Bedard

What Child Is This - Fox + Hound

I dunno
I mean, there's just one song I need for New Years:

I always, always have this on repeat since she released the video, and yes, you have to watch the video to realise the greatness of this. "Does anybody really know the words???", Mariah asks while she, very much pregnant with twins, squeezes into the skimpiest outfit to dance around to a grand ole' Almighty beat in front of what looks like a Windows 98 screensaver. It's absolutely glorious.

Sorry everyone, but it was only when I saw everyone else's nominations that I realised that I should have only included alternatives to the best known versions of the songs so I have had to edit my list again. I think I have now finally complied with the instructions.

I misread the instructions and had nominated different versions of the same song on a few occasions. I now edited my list so it now contains 20 versions of different songs.

Oh, don't worry at all @Angels Chanting. Not wishing to complicate things further but, while lesser-known versions are welcome, there's no obligation at all to exclude well-known versions. Likewise, it's not a hard and fast rule to only include each song once.

I'm really enjoying reading and listening to this thread. After seeing the list of amazing songs I've reached the conclusion my taste in Christmas songs is a bit weird.

Having only just grasped how to upload videos it would be next Christmas by the time my efforts reached this.

The nominations are in, and it's time for Telly Talk to vote for our top version of The Most-Recorded Christmas Songs.

Anyone can vote: you don't need to have nominated songs to take part in this round.

Please choose TEN tracks from the one hundred(!) in this post, and share your list below, with #1 being your favourite. If you could tag the poster who nominated each of your choices, that would be appreciated.

Links to listen to all the songs can be found here.

I'm about half-way along with my listening and enjoying it very much.

I just wondered @Mel O'Kalikimaka if you would like ten different songs in our votes? or could we , for instance have two O Holy Nights or two Deck The Halls, etc.,? thanks.
