It's been quite some time since we've done any Top Ten stuff around here so how about a one-off seasonal nomination/vote thingy throughout this month, based on....
For any newcomers: The idea is we all nominate songs we like based on the title/theme of the thread. We then check out each other's nominations and pick a favourite ten from their lists.
For this theme, we're limiting the song title ONLY to the 28 found in The Most Recorded Christmas Songs lists on this page (including the three extra songs in the "Unique artists" list). Although it's a fairly short list, there are thousands of versions of each song which should be enough for everyone's lists to look - and sound - different.
The songs are:
Silent Night
White Christmas
Jingle Bells
Winter Wonderland
Joy To The World
The First Noel
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
O Holy Night
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)
Away In A Manger
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
O Little Town Of Bethlehem
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
I’ll Be Home For Christmas
O Come All Ye Faithful
Deck The Halls
Silver Bells
Ave Maria
What Child Is This?
We Wish You A Merry Christmas
It Came Upon The Midnight Clear
Sleigh Ride
Blue Christmas
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
Angels We Have Heard On High
We Three Kings
Auld Lang Syne
Simply pick up to 20 of these titles, and nominate the version of each that you think is the best/most interesting/most Christmassy or that stands out in some way to make it special compared with the versions we know so well (but you can nominate those versions too, of course). Then post it below for our delectation.
Once nominations are all in, we'll then vote on our favourites from all the nominated songs.
Here's a recap (courtesy of our friendly neighbourhood @Ome) on how best to approach this and to help things run smoothly.
• Please list the nominated songs by title and then artist
• Please include a link to the video so others can listen to your nominated versions
• Please copy the list without the links and post it at bottom of your post
• Duplicates of other members' nominations are allowed, but won't be included when we take the vote
• 20 songs is the maximum, but less than 20 is fine
Once the nominations are complete, I will post the final list, and everyone can then check out all the nominated songs and vote for their favourite ten from other members' lists.
Everyone is welcome to join in and nominate 20 songs
The last day for nominations is:
WEDNESDAY 13TH DECEMBER
ENJOY
