Well I expected to find a Tina Arena thread but was shocked that there wasn't one! I know we had one before! Anyways tonight I have been reintroduced to this little gem by a friend and I have fallen absolutely in love with everything about it. Tina makes this song sound so easy to sing, even if it's not. I just love how it builds! It's magnificent.
Don't check our Mariah's version. Please. Just. Don't.

It's EVERYTHING.
Such a real, genuine, proper singer!

I think that live version of I Wanna Know What Love Is, is my favourite thing... Ever.

Such a real, genuine, proper singer!

Yes! She's amazing. She can do epic and shouty and she can do quiet and gentle and soft equally well. Her most recent album, has some really fantastic tracks on it. I love her voice--so pure and clear and strong.

I'm glad you re-started the Tina thread, Alexis. Just this weekend I was wondering if I should do that very thing as I've been listening to a lot of Tina recently.

My favourite Tina song - Symphonie de l'ame. I love singing along in French:

There is an interpretation (not a direct translation) entirely in English called Symphony Of Life, which is excellent too. Both, naturally, are co-written by Tina herself.

The last few months I've been playing her live duet of The Prayer with Anthony Callea a heck of a lot. I've finally got the Italian lyrics and inflections down and so enjoy singing Anthony's part and pretending I'm up there with Ms. Arena:

As you may remember, I started the last thread when I'd just walked out of seeing Tina's Reset Live tour. She is a truly splendid vocalist and has the clarity and power onstage. Her live albums are definitely worth considering.

I adore Tina's Songs Of Love & Loss albums. They're definitive covers of well-known songs that really showcase Tina's crisp, clear voice.

A few favourites from those albums:

I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself

Call Me

Everybody Hurts

I have been reintroduced to this little gem by a friend and I have fallen absolutely in love with everything about it.

This is one of the songs I've added to my Favourites playlist recently. I have a CD single of IWKWLI remixes too.

But my favourite version of this song by Tina is the live duet she did with Kane Alexander (which is also on CD). Especially from around 3:30 onwards:

I posted this on the last forum, but it needs to go in again for posterity. The "Penis Arenis" concern still makes me laugh:

Gah - Part 2 has disappeared!! :(

I could post pretty much the entire Eleven album. It's so great.

You're so right. A couple more favourites from it:

Lie In It

Overload
(Tina's most autobiographical track)

Magic

My friend told me that her hit 'I'm in Chains' featured in 'Twelve Years a Slave'. I'm so gullible.

Would you believe it also featured in Fifty Shades Of Grey?! ;)

I'll take your word for it. Wonderful song, but have no intentions of ever watching that movie.

This thread has encouraged me to up my daily dose of Tina by pulling a load more of her tracks back into my Favourites playlist.

Most of them are from the Songs Of Love & Loss albums, but I've also fallen head over heels back in love with an earlier track...

Heaven Help My Heart

So much soul in this one. Even in her twenties she was just too good at writing powerful, emotionally intelligent songs.

Standing Up just came on shuffle.

I haven't listened to it much (the "I'm a woman" lyric put me off). What really jumped out at me today is how much it sounds like it belongs in The Lion King. Seriously. I won't be able to hear it without recasting Tina as Simba. Or maybe Nala.
