Today it is exactly 35 years ago that pop singer Karen Carpenter died of a heart attack due to the consequences of years of struggle against anorexia nervosa, many people of today still miss her beautiful warm voice, just like me.

I still can not believe that it has been so long ago. therefore a nice tribute to this pop legend

She was a class act lady to me.

Karen Carpenter (March 2, 1950 - February 4, 1983)

This was Karen's final song she recorded in 1983 for their new album, but it was released until the end of 1983

Karen's death really was such a shocking waste. So little was known about anorexia then, and the devastating repercussions it can have on the body. It was Karen's death that really brought much of that into the public eye.

35 years?! Time really does fly.

It's also the Carpenters' 50th Anniversary.

Love a bit of Carpenters, and Now is one of Karen's most beautiful vocals.

A few more favourites:

Thanks @Mel O'Drama, I didn't know it their 50th anniversary also. i thought it would be next year, i really did get lost track of time. ;)

I also love the song "Now" it's also one of my favorite Carpenters songs the album "Voice Of The Heart". :)

Some nice choices, i love "Where Do I Go From Here" and "Solitaire" too. Karen's voice is so clear and strong in these songs.

I didn't realize that she was dead. :(
But yeah I am sure people became more aware of Anorexia after she died from it. So tragic and she was just in her early 30s.

Yes, Karen was indeed to young when she died, but her legancy will live on forever.

Thanks @Payton Cross for starting this thread. Karen Carpenter is one of my favorite singers and I always enjoy her music. She, like others like Kate Bush, should be the pattern to follow for some "starlets" out there trying to be music stars...These are my two favorites of her (also featuring her brother, btw...) :

I just can't believe Karen Carpenter passed away exactly 40 years ago today, she is still missed by many other people but her beautiful voice will still remain in our hearts.

40th years ago that Karen Carpenter left our earth but became a Angel in heaven.
Karen Carpenter, half of the Grammy-winning '70s duo the Carpenters and wholly one of the greatest vocalists of all time, died 40 years ago today at age 32.

The lead vocalist and superstar drummer — alongside with her brother, Richard, who played piano and sang backup vocals — had 12 Top 10 hits in a span of five years. The "We've Only Just Begun" and "(They Long to Be) Close to You" singers won three Grammys, including Best Contemporary Vocal Performance by a Duo and Best New Artist of the Year. They had their own TV variety show, Make Your Own Kind of Music, drawing A-list guest stars. The pair's catchy, easy-listening tunes made them among the best-selling music artists of that time — and of all time. To date, more than 100 million Carpenters records have sold worldwide.

Perhaps Karen's greater legacy is that — following her Feb. 4, 1983 death after suffering heart failure due to anorexia — the songbird with the angelic voice and standout drumming skills put a public face on the eating disorder from which she quietly suffered for years. Her death prompted widespread media coverage of anorexia for the first time. It became the catalyst for education and research — as well as treatment facilities focusing just on eating disorders.

I was born 12 years to the day after she passed away. Her voice was so beautiful and so haunting, memorable on many songs but the chorus of "yesterday once More' stays with me oftentimes. I wish that she had lived for a much longer period of time.

Sad that this had to be a part of her legacy but she can definitely look down and take pride in the fact that her struggles ended up helping so many with eating disorders in the last 40 years. She may have lost her battle but she helped millions beat their demons in the process.

I wish she stayed with us also much longer, to bad she didn;t find a way to recover from her eating disorder, i could imagine how many other songs she would record with Richard or a solo career in the end. ;)

I agree, i think Karen became the face of this terrible eating disorder, and could help other people who struggled the same way. But we also have her beautiful legacy of music that will remind us how beautiful person she really was.
