Time immemorial
The Superb Sons & Daughters reunion in Sydney happened yesterday. It was heart warming, touching and funny. Most of it was filmed and hopefully will be viewable soon. Peter Phelps at the last moment couldn’t make it because he is in a play rehearsing in Melbourne. He was very apologetic and was disappointed, he wanted to be there. The lovely Michael Winchester who played Todd Fisher was there as an unexpected bonus. All the cast were so sweet and kind. Oriana is a hoot and so friendly. Antonia is gorgeous and very bubbly (she kissed me on lips in front of Kevin!). Stephen Comey was clearly touched by the whole event experience. Tom and Ian gracious and witty. Danny Roberts recalled stories, Carole Skinner drew a large Prisoner fan base in the crowd and Steve du Casse - Philippe - came as Elvis and sang). There were two brilliant vintage S&D commercials played for the 7 Network. These had been unseen by most participants and were fun, vibrant and colourful, showing the main cast laughing, jumping, smiling and also on a float on a street parade. Wonderful stuff! Meeting Rowena was heart warming and it may or may not be one of her last appearances like this, may she be well and in good health for more. She was amazed and chuffed by three covers she signed for me which she hadn’t seen either in a long time or ever. She has such presence even though she is frail she has a great spirit. And then, my darling Kim Lewis. She remembered me and told the cast and fans how we had met earlier this year. She is a complete sweetheart. And at one point she laughed, really laughed. It was such a delight. It came to a surreal end when the glorious Ally Fowler lead the singing of the theme song which everyone joined in with arm waving. It was undisputedly one of the best days of my life. Autographs, photos and a wee chat with everyone. Thank thank thank. I will never regret going. I loved it! Huge Gratitude to the organisers and the cast! And to give everyone plenty of time to perhaps save up and plan…Sons and Daughters Reunion Melbourne (Feb??) 2025!!! Wahoo!!!
Lovely, VF3!

I also recall when Sons and Daughters was advertised here it was to an old sixties song called "A little bit of soap".

Was this in one of the ITV regions, @LMLDallas78, or for later repeats on UK Gold or C5? I love this kind of stuff.

I don't recall any kind of promotion in my ITV region, but back then I didn't really hop aboard until around the Luke Carlyle era. I remember UK Gold having some terrific promos for the various soaps but, for the life of me, I can't remember any relating to S&D.

This was definitely on its original ITV run probably about 1984-85 I would think, if my memory is correct picturing where I lived at the time.
I didn't particularly know the song that well, but it seemed very apt to advertise Sons & Daughters.

I also remember it being well advertised when David was having an affair with Patricia, I can still picture it now.

About 2005
I'm so pleased for you @Victoriafan3 what a lovely write up you've posted. It sounds like you had such a wonderful experience.

I'm often reading Sons and Daughters threads and although I've never posted, I was a fan.
I remember it was on when I came home from school and my older sister would watch it. I would sit there doing my eye rolls at it at first, but then I got really into it.

I think I've ever only seen it repeated once since it aired so my knowledge is very rusty, but I have fond memories of it. The one quirky thing I remember is David was the only one who called Patricia "Pat", but maybe others did too, I just remember he did.

I loved all the characters and reading about them brings it all back. Patricia was my favourite though and I loved Rowena Wallace. It's sad to read she's not in the best of health.

You will always treasure those memories, thank you so much for sharing your story.
Thank you so much @LMLDallas78 It’s lovely to hear from you on here and I appreciate your warm words. You are so right. I absolutely will always treasure this day. It is a standout life highlight. I can’t express how Grateful I am.

Patricia was most people’s favourite and Rowena Wallace is a national treasure in Australia. It was humbling to meet her

It sure was an addictive show and I’m glad you eventually got hooked.

Thanks again for your lovely post :)

I remember watching an interview with Rowena Wallace - well, more of short documentary, where she talked about her career and assisted housing and was virtually penniless - it was so sad because she is just an incredible actress and has so much talent, but the work just dried up for her and her health started to suffer. As much as I love the show, like Dallas, it was the ensemble cast that made it so addictive - but Rowena's scenes always stood out because she just had such a presence on screen.

And thank you so much for telling us all about the reunion, sounds like it was an amazing day - so pleased that everyone had such a great time.

My Youtube watch continues....nearing up to episode 100 this week....and absolutely adoring watching it all over again.

Thought I would share these two small articles when Sons and Daughters was being repeated here on Channel 5 starting in 1998.

Oh yikes. The "Memorable Moments" section is rather spoiler-ish, isn't it?!

And I can practically hear @Willie Oleson's teeth grinding when he sees that picture of "Pat" and her shoulder pads.

Thanks for sharing this. Great fun.

When I think of PatFashion I think of the dress she was-or-wasn't going to wear in order to seduce David during the barbeque. So many shades of Abigail's Party.
(too bad it wasn't fondue).

Unless I missed something they're not in a hurry to release it even though Collection 5 (the S&D best-seller??) is the only box set that's no longer available to buy.
Or is it because David is not satisfied with the image? After all, he was once a professional model.

About 2005
Awwww. I loved that! Glad you got to see a bit of it. That was the end. Ally said something to Kim part way through and she got fits of giggles. It was hilarious. Yes yes yes the planning for Melbourne Feb/March 2025 will begin in March 2024 so there’ll be more details then. We’ve all got time to save up and go. I highly recommended buying the VIP tickets because you get a professional photo with the whole cast. It’s so worth it. I’m still beaming in gratitude for going and for the cast doing this…

For those wishing to hear some positive news regarding Rowena Wallace there is a great article on DailyMail Australia in which someone has created a role specially for Rowena. Sounds right up her alley...and so it should be. I won't linked the article as I'm not sure if I'm breaking the rules here but if you bring up DailyMail Australia just use their own search function and type in Rowena Wallace. It will be the first article listed. It's a great read.

Great article, let's hope and pray that things work out for Rowena and that the future is much more positive for her. Although the show was an ensemble she really did stand out and was became the focus and the face of the show from a media point of view- and that must have been tough to deal with. Patricia was an incredible character, played by a damn fine actress.

Patricia was an incredible character
I've always thought this is how Alexis Carrington should have been; a conniving, meddling ex-wife. Instead they married off Alexis to Cecil, inheriting his millions after his death and becoming a high-shrill wanna-be bitch. Patricia was a multi-faceted character. One minute you felt real empathy towards her. Next? My goodness Pat, how low can you go?

Good grief she was brilliant.

This is why I never took to Alison Carr - it was Rowena's performance that made Patricia work so well, she was so subtle but it spoke volumes. I'm sure other people were like me and tuned in just for her and what the hell she's say or do next. She was so devilishly great to watch., That being said, Pat McDonald was also a fantastic scene stealer and so when the 2 came face to face it was always a winner for the audience, the 2 of them made me such a fan of the show.
