Who tops out the vintage aged women (other than Ellie)?

DALLAS had it's fair share of vintage aged female characters, over the 13 year duration. Who was your favourite, other than the matriarch herself Eleanor Southworth Ewing Farlow?

Don't forget who calls the shots at Wentworth Tool & Dye, Digger wife and then Herbert's spouse.


Ellie and Rebecca encounter each other outside a restaurant. Things could get heated over the feud between J.R. and Cliff, which almost cost him his life, (a scene from season 5; DVD-6, 1982-'83):

Ellie: "Rebecca. We should talk."

Rebecca: "All right!"

They decide to take a walk.

Ellie: "You and I share a grandson now. Let the two of us try to work together and put a stop to this family feud. Cliff has his own company now and J.R. is busy. They’re on equal ground. They really have no reason to fight each other."

Rebecca: "That’s a very fine attitude for you to have Ellie. But then again, it wasn’t your son who almost died."

Ellie: "But Rebecca, that’s over. It’s behind us. Cliff pulled out of it."

Rebecca: "If it were one of your boys, would you be so quick to forgive?"

Ellie: "I hope so!"

Rebecca: "I’ll tell you something, Ellie. I’m all for it. But if J.R. takes one step out of line; I guarantee you, we’ll destroy him!"

Ellie: "Rebecca, I’ve done everything I know to put a stop to this nonsense.

But if it’s a fight you want, just remember .... Other people have fought the Ewings before and they’ve regretted it."

Rebecca: "We’ll see."

Ellie: "All right, Rebecca. I tried. Now it’s up to you."

Rebecca walks away from the Ewing matriarch and has food for thought.

Cliff, Katherine and Pam's mama is my vote. I would have liked if Rebecca had more time, in Dallas. As with Digger, she was gone too soon.

And the last time she was seen, she had to endure the presence of Trampy Winger, then girlfriend of Cliff. "What a shady lady you brought to me, Cliffie! Now you go with ´hoes!"

How the heck could I have forgotten Maggie Barnes Monahan? Digger's widowed sister, a Kansas and then Marshall resident was a great shoulder to cry on, a top homemaker, Jimmy's mum and the surrogate mother to the Barnes children, after Rebecca left Dallas.

Digger's wise sister Maggie. She was in four episodes.


Cliff and Mandy show up at Maggie's house, with photos of her grand nephew Christopher. The real reason they are there will soon become clear and it's to do with the start of Ewing Oil 55 years ago. The rarely seen wise old aunt weighs her visitors up, (a scene from season 7; DVD-8, 1984 - '85):

"If I know my brother’s son, he didn’t drive three hours to Marshall on a Saturday just to show me baby pictures."

Not a question that had occupied my mind before but I'll say Mavis Anderson. Always there when Ellie needed an ear, always kind.

I liked Rebecca. I would have liked to see her defeat the Ewings and take over Ewing Oil. There was a lot of story possibility there
On a peripheral note, I always thought that Pam blaming Bobby was wrong. I guess that had to be the writing
to move the story forward. And Clayton blaming JR - just another reason not to like that outsider.
Cliff was more to blame, if anyone was responsible.
Katherine had it closest to right - telling Cliff that he involved Rebecca in an endless losing war with the Ewings.
Katherine should have inherited the majority of the company - Her Father's company.


Jessica was the only Farlow that I liked.
