Why didn’t John and Linda rebel against the Rita plot?

I get the impression that while she may have been gay friendly (she was friends with Cesar Romero too) she just thought that lesbian shower scenes were too risqué for her quality show.
Yes, obviously the writers did not want to make a serious storyline with the lesbian affair but rather something sexy in order to attract male viewers (like "Dallas" did that year with Valentine's lingerie).
So I can understand Jane Wyman's point of view.

Rewatching Dynasty in Pluto TV, I’ve always wondered why John Forsythe and Linda Evans didn’t rebel against the Rita plot?
Joan Collins claimed that she asked John Forsythe and Linda Evans to come with her see the producers around mid-season 6 in order to tell them how worried they were about the stoylines. But Joan said a lot of things that are not always true so it's hard to say if the meeting with the producers really happened.

On the subject of exceptions, there’s a few that I’ve heard of on the primetime soaps.

John James has said that he refused to do a storyline in season 9 where Jeff and Monica fell in love. A version of it played out with Adam suggesting to a tabloid that they were having a fling, culminating in the series final catfight. Knowing the show was coming to an end, James obviously felt comfortable enough to refuse the plot without any great consequence.

I think the cast of Knots had input as opposed to outright veto when it came to storylines. Donna Mills has said that originally the writers wanted Abby to organise the kidnapping of Val’s twins. Donna thought this would be a step too far for Abby, so it was rewritten to have Abby inadvertently inspire the kidnapping.
Obviously the cast of DALLAS had no input. Larry went along with anything.

I think Larry used his sway in regard to casting (didn’t he intervene in Linda being written out at some stage?) but yes, in regard to storylines, he was obviously up for anything so long as those big paychecks were rolling in.

Yeah. I should have clarified, he did become a producer so he was UP for anything and everything.

True. he loved the Callie storyline... Podwell was cute and all but she was wasted on a trash storyline.

NOT on 1980's network television.

There was a very sexy scene in the 6th episode of season 9. I think I read somewhere it was considered as a very audacious scene by 1989's standards.

Father Chris skinny dipped in a season 5 Falcon Crest scene IIRC. There was a long shot of him diving into a pond. And Melissa was watching from afar.

Didn’t JF nix the love remembered having sex with Alexis while he had amnesia
also didn’t he stop Sean Rowan being the son he fathered between Alexis and Krystle but never knew existed? So they made the character Joseph’s son who was never mentioned and changed Anders to Aynders. Where was he and his other sister at Joseph’s funeral. JF was ok with all that crap plus ok with not recognizing Rita was a fraud. The character that so easily crushed Matthew and Walter and anyone else in season 1 became an idiot and he was ok with it.
The big 3 did have the power but by then they were getting huge paychecks and Joan also was cashing in on all those trashy mini series while Linda cashed in hawking saccharine water and cheap hair color.
What I want to know is what was in the OG bible for season 4, the last real season of Dynasty which seemed choppy like they kept changing direction ( that became the norm ever since ) season 3 wasn’t great but it had a cohesive plot from beginning to end

I think that meeting did happen according to the ‘Saving Dynasty’ article in US magazine on Friday 13th December 1985. John and Joan attended at the Shapiro’s house while Linda was in France filming a Clairol commercial.

Every time I get into this forum and see the title of this thread, I think it means John (Derek) instead of Forsythe. I wouldn´t have been surprised if he had known about the director Joel´s character and the rest of the shenanigans (he making his girl look like Linda Evans through plastic surgery), and had wanted to suit that cheapskate goblin...
