Yes, obviously the writers did not want to make a serious storyline with the lesbian affair but rather something sexy in order to attract male viewers (like "Dallas" did that year with Valentine's lingerie).I get the impression that while she may have been gay friendly (she was friends with Cesar Romero too) she just thought that lesbian shower scenes were too risqué for her quality show.
So I can understand Jane Wyman's point of view.
Joan Collins claimed that she asked John Forsythe and Linda Evans to come with her see the producers around mid-season 6 in order to tell them how worried they were about the stoylines.
