CC didn't seem to care much about continuity. Was it really depression, that he conveniently snapped out of once the show started?
The whole thing about him being in a nursing home just didn't fit right, particularly given his behaviour in the subsequent episodes.
The difference was that JR admitted himself to the mental institute as a scheme. JR would have never agreed ti go to a nursing home. Yes, I’ve also always wondered how Christopher was engaged to his cousin. How did Rebecca go along with dating her cousinThe way all legacy characters in Dallas were treated in TNT Dallas showed a real lack of respect for Lorimar Dallas. However, the same argument could be applied to the original series run when JR ended up in a mental facility. Starting TNT Dallas off with JR in a nursing/retirement home weakened the character out of the box but I suspect because the showrunner was informed to ignore the reunion movies and her starting point was Conundrum this could explain why JR started off in that facility after his suicide attempt.
Case in point? Christopher - despite growing up with his cousin Pamela Rebecca - had no freakin' idea who she was. Dumb!
I think that storyline was changed as they were going because of viewer backlash that the Barnes family had not been included. The difference was that JR admitted himself to the mental institute as a scheme. As in Season 1 of TNT Dallas? This is the first of I've heard of this. It was my impression the writers thought it would have been a brilliant concept to have Cliff step off the Learjet at the end of season 1. As if Cliff could ever beat that magnificent bastard, JR. What would have been awesome if Jeremy Wendell stepped of the Learjet. Now there was a worthy contender to bring the Ewing family down...he had a score to settle.I think that storyline was changed as they were going because of viewer backlash that the Barnes family had not been included.
But did Cidre know who Jeremy W. was... ?As in Season 1 of TNT Dallas? This is the first of I've heard of this. Also John Ross’s attitude toward JR made no sense. John Ross idolized JR the way JR did JockNone of the explanation about the characters and what they did between original Dallas and NuDallas made sense.
Sue Ellen kept John Ross from JR all those years? Like, why? In the late seasons of the original we see JR and SE speaking in the phone about John Ross - actually co-parenting. There was never a good explanation as to why SE suddenly felt the need to hide John Ross from his father - especially if JR was harmless locked up in a nursing home.
Well, we did see him resent JR over all the attention he showered on James. John Ross even willingly left South Fork to go live with his mom in another country. Also John Ross’s attitude toward JR made no sense. John Ross idolized JR the way JR did Jock
I don't buy the part about Sue Ellen hiding John Ross from JR.
Part of me understands disregarding the TV movies. SE was back at South Fork and involved in Ewing Oil. There wouldn't have been a lot of room for plot maneuvering.Despite all their issues over the years she never gave any indication she would do this. It certainly doesn’t appear to be the case in the Dallas movies but of course those really weren’t covered in TNT land.
Even counting the movies, there was still a lot of time to account for; plenty of time for Sue Ellen to have left the company and gotten involved in politics.Part of me understands disregarding the TV movies. The good years balanced it out with strong character work. The later seasons were all about plot- Stevens sisters, James etc were all plot characters.Dallas was always a plot driven show and the sequel series ramped it up a hundred percent.
Seems about right. Not all plots were poor, but most of them were poorly writtenThe good years balanced it out with strong character work. The later seasons were all about plot- Stevens sisters, James etc were all plot characters.
