In and of itself, not much. I've never paid much attention to it other than, perhaps, a quick glance a who wore what; the outfits are usually dumb and don't even hit the mark of the year's theme.

More broadly, I realize I am completely sick of celebrities. I'm tired of all their schtick: their self-congratulatory award shows, their circus ponying on red carpets, and their look-at-me activism. They can all shove off.

It's funny, but everybody seems to feel that way right now. I mean, celebrity schtick --- their self-congratulatory, circus ponying on red carpets, and their look-at-me activism --- has existed for eons, but the collective public exhaustion with it has never been so high. Of course, Hollywood seems to have completely missed this attitude shift, but the industry has never been as utterly out-of-touch with the zeitgeist at large as it seems to be today.

As Maxwell Smart would so eloquently put it, "Missed it by that much." With their inward looking, I'm here to accept my award but I'm going to burn you all for not saving the planet speeches...yes Hollywood has shot itself in the foot. I just don't care anymore for Hollywood or those attending the opening of an envelope. They swan around the globe in their private jets but are audacious enough to lecture us common folk about the perils the planet is in.

It's funny, but everybody seems to feel that way right now. I suspect it's because the public has caught on to their virtue signaling, performative bullshit. In many ways, Trump exposed the [moderator edit] for who they really are. They pretend to care about injustices, yet they support the dregs of both the Democratic and Republican parties simply because of their shared hatred of Trump. George W. Bush went from being reviled to loved by the neoliberal class. These days, many celebrities are on social media openly expressing their hatred of the plebs who refuse to fall in line and support their beloved "resistance" heroes. I think people are simply tired of being lectured by a bunch of wealthy, smug, self-righteous hypocrites who act holier than thou.

Even progressive darling AOC has thrown her lot in with [moderator edit] She made headlines with her "tax the rich" dress at the Met Gala, but that's the point. AOC is clearly an attention seeker who does these performative stunts so people will keep talking about her. When it comes to putting in the effort to put these policies in place, AOC's quickly shown to be all talk and no action. Apparently, AOC's ticket to the Met Gala was comped by the museum itself. I doubt they'd have done that if she was legitimately coming after the wealthy's money. In another twist of irony, the dress AOC wore was designed by a woman whose dating the son of a billionaire. Best to take it with a grain of salt.

How much money does it take to maintain the Costumer Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art? It's supposedly the only department of the museum that's required to be self-funded but does it really need $13 million each year (that the estimated amount the 2019 gala raised)?

I miss the days when Babe Paley, Nan Kempner and Betsy Bloomingdale wouldn't let trash like the kardashian-jenner clan within 500 yards of such an event.

It doesn't help that most of the movies being released today are garbage, with TV being only intermittently better. When the entertainment industry can't even perform its basic job, it's so much harder to put up with their insufferable bullshit.

Attendees (or their sponsors) paid $35,000 for a ticket to attend the Gala to raise money for charity and in total I think it raised $13.5 million and also raised the profile of the Metropolitаn Museum of Art so I think Anna Wintour is doing a great job.

Personally I think more museums should be funded by taxation because they benefit all of society but if people don't want to pay more taxes, what's the alternative, shut down museums or have celebrity galas to raise funds?

Is anybody looking at these photos of celebrities in their ridiculously over the top costumes and thinking about a museum? It's a photo op and play time for them.

Celebrities are used to attending events with ridiculously high ticket prices. It's not like $35,000 is going to put a dimple in their bank account. Personally, I think the Met Gala is more about celebrities showing off their wealth by playing dress up and less about funding a museum. They never miss an opportunity to be the center of attention.

I had never heard of this event before but to me it looks like they're all doing what they (think) they are supposed to do (as per instructions by the photographers).
But this is 2021 and therefore it demands an analysis, which only gives more attention to the attention.

I laughed out loud at the Megyn Kelly video. Obviously she's never watched The Lonely Lady (now available on bluray).

The show itself (or is it not a show?) looks like Ryan Murphy on acid.

Do I know Shawn Mendes? He looks familiar and the name sounds familiar but it hasn't "clicked" yet.
Or maybe he looks like Justin Bieber's pretty cousin. I want him in a new prime time soap.
