Who will replace Biden as the Democratic nominee?

They're hacks. They had to cover for him until he secured the nomination. Now all of his supporters in corporate media are wasting no time picking his bones clean.

If they wanted to demonstrate to the entire country that Biden's unfit for office well before the convention, scheduling the debate this early was the perfect way to do it.
You know, it hadn't occurred to me before now, but this is very early to have a debate. Perhaps you're right and this is all part of a plan...

Because, as we've said, as the rules go, the DNC leaders can then choose the nominee as long as Biden makes it to the convention. So the voters won't get a choice at that point.

True. But as we have discussed before, the voters never really had a choice this go round in the first place.

I don't see how Biden recovers from this. Even Kamala is out there saying he had a "slow start" - which is putting it mildly.

If the Dems don't replace Biden, Trump wins in a landslide.

I'll admit I don't fully comprehend the voting system in America but wouldn't it be a tad embarrassing to have the sitting President rock up to the convention only to have the carpet pulled right out from under him? How does the electorate (voters) react to the DNC sticking the middle finger at them for choosing their own nominee? Or will there be a seismic shift of Democratic voters returning to the party if President Biden is replaced?

I'm not in favour of gambling but I'd offer a wager President Biden will rock up to the convention and make the announcement himself he will not contest. I'm assuming this allows him to see out his days as President while the new nominee challenges Donald Trump for the Oval Office.

If he did do that, it would be what was best for the country. Unfortunately, he is defiantly pushing back against calls for him to step down. He gave a fiery (and surprisingly coherent) speech in NC yesterday vowing to fight on.

Yes, his dementia hasn't got in the way of his ego.

This likely puts the Dems even further into panic mode, as Biden will continue embarrassing himself between now and November (unless they find another way to replace him.)

If the entire country wasn't paying the price, I'd say the Dems deserve this for forcing Biden on us in 2020. The only alternative is Trump, which means we're royally screwed.

I read a blurb today (not sure if the source is credible and haven't seen video footage) that Biden had to grip Dr. Biden's arm to keep from falling while deplaning today.

From the great land down under I've heard many times from watching American movies or television series the words, "...a true patriot". Perhaps I should seek out The True Patriot written by Eric Liu and Nick Hanauer where they argue in these cynical times there should be a higher call: to country first.

"The True Patriot urges us to reconnect with our original and patriotic traditions - country above self, contribution above consumption, stewardship over exploitation, and freedom with responsibility."

Perhaps President Biden should take note of the obvious: country above self.

That's how it should be in an ideal world, but reality is much bleaker. Politics (at least in the US) attracts selfish narcissists who are rewarded for enacting the empire's agenda.

That's always been the problem -- and always will be: narcissists (and narcissist-sociopaths) run everything. And they run everything because they want to.

Even in the average office setting, the bad people (and there are bad people) are always most interested in obtaining positions of authority -- overt or covert authority -- and are always trying to control what everybody thinks about everybody else. Sometimes some decent people may wind up in lower management positions, but their decency usually prevents them from rising any higher (and very often, they don't really want to, wanting to keep their heads down in hopes of just surviving). And destroying innocent people is frequently a source of gauding competition and entertainment for the higher ups.

Extreme greed and extreme selfishness always have a sadistic element to them. Always. It's, like, biblical and shit.

Naturally, this plays out on the federal gov't level in their need to serve the major corporations (which are the real government). They're whores. They're sociopathic whores... If they weren't sociopathic whores, they wouldn't reach those positions. And if, as a fluke, they did reach those positions, they'd leave or be pushed-out very quickly as an obvious foreign entity. (In fact, they're literally accused of being a foreign entity, as they're labeled a "Russian asset" or a "Putin puppet" if they appear to even fleetingly express any kind of genuine conscience at all).

So we're screwed. But we usually are. Sometimes we inch closer to nuclear obliteration than usual, and that just adds to the fun.

Professor Lichtman is warning Dems against replacing Biden.

Lichtman comes across as incredibly defensive and in deep denial. Even if you separate Biden's "performance" from his mental acuity, he's still awful on both counts.

You don't have to be a doctor to tell that Biden's barely functioning. Reagan may have been old too, but his mental decline wasn't this severe at the end of his second term.

Lichtman may be great at presidential predictions, but he also sounds more than a little biased.

I am only gonna quibble about Reagan by saying that when. He said he didn't remember anything about Iran Contra - I believed him .

Lichtman has an entire system of points that go into his un-failed predictions (again, he had no idea that 2000 was going to be stolen) and I assume he's weighing the negatives against Biden to the negatives against Trump (the legal stuff).

I tend to think Trump will win regardless of what goes on with Biden and the DNC.

But I just want it to be wild, whatever it is. I want Biden replaced just for the outrageousness of it (nasty Hillary would be the most fun).

Yes, his predictions have been right on target (with the one exception for obvious reasons.)

However, it's his dismissiveness of the idea that Biden is mentally unfit to serve for another four years that makes him come across as defensive and in denial.

He claims the Dems will likely lose if they replace Biden, but does he really think they can win with him? IMO, he seriously underestimates the damage that debate did to Biden.

But I just want it to be wild, whatever it is. I want Biden replaced just for the outrageousness of it (nasty Hillary would be the most fun).
Yes. It reminds me of how George Carlin became resigned to the fact that US politics was a sham, so he sat back and enjoyed the show. If Hillary manages to weasel her way into the White House, I hope her presidency is a mirror image of Trump's first term. I want salacious claims of colluding with foreign governments and impeachment scandals!
