The actor who played Sandy from the very first episode of Crossroads, died on 26th February 1981. He was only 35.

Looking back, Sandy and Diane were my favourites. The acting on Crossroads was generally better than it was given credit for (it was the show's weirdly artificial premise that made it all seem so strange), but those two in particular had a naturalness and a wit that made everything they said or did feel believable.

My favourites were always Sandy, Jill, Jane Smith and Diane, in that order. Sandy was a genuinely humorous character who had some of the best storylines when I first started watching the show in the 1970s. Although most people most closely associate Meg and Benny with Crossroads, I was often more indifferent towards them.
