Netflix currently has a special on Betty White. I think it goes for nearly an hour. I only knew of Betty from The Golden Girls and later works so it was great to learn about her early career. And Betty did something I would never do. I'll offer a clue. It was big and hairy and I'll leave it at that.

My earliest memories of Ms. White is her Portrayal of Ellen, Eunice's sister on The Carol Burnett Show. Then I saw old episodes of her on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Not only is she a wonderful comedienne, she's an incredible actress.
T.V. certainly has its negative impacts on societu3, but people like Betty White (along with Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance, Jackie Gleason, Carol Burnett, Carroll O'connor, Harvey Korman,Sherman Hemsley, jean Stapleton, Flip Wilson, and several others) have left behind a legacy of valuable entertainment, imho. I can enjoy their work for decades, it's timeless, it makes me laugh and relax, and it doesn't just fall back on crude or cruel jokes for shock value.

She really comes off like Olivia de Havilland in HUSH... HUSH, SWEET CHARLOTTE in that one.

She was also the first (and I believe, the only) woman to win the Daytime Emmy for Best Game Show Host. She hosted a short-lived show in 1983 called Just Men!. It was sort of natural that she would get a game show of her own, having appeared on just about every game show that needed a celebrity guest.
In 1988 NBC dreamed up a promotional contest for their daytime soaps called "Where's Betty?" Basically, viewers watched the NBC soaps for a week and wrote down the roles White appeared in on those shows (cameos written just for the contest), mailed them in, and one winner would be drawn to win a trip to Hawaii and some money. She appeared on all three of their shows (even throwing herself at Mac Cory on Another World!). This was well before she signed on for the regular role of Stephanie's mother on The Bold and the Beautiful.
