I was reminded of childhood "fear", something to revel in because it was never the disruptive kind of fear that we experience as adults.
If there was a problem or situation our parents would take care of it.
Fear was fascinating, and this series has lots of spooky atmosphere, mystery and jump scares. I would have LOVED this at the age of 9.
At the end of the story it got a bit muddled with the various astrological, mathematical, religious and time warp theories.
I'm still not sure why it happened or keeps happening.
At the same time, the reality of the mystery has to be very obvious and they all should be curious enough to ignore the dangers in order to show everything that's going on.
It's more about the imagery than the sense of danger (as they would do it in a story for adults) but I think the imagination of children needs to be stimulated in a such a basic way, like babies and toddlers need to stimulated with bright colours rather than mauve or petrol blue.
Nevertheless, it's impressive that they would use elements of adult horror in a story for children.
Especially the chant sequences by the possessed villagers look quite disturbing. A Hammer House of mini-Horror, as it were.

An Interesting series, Iain Cuthbertson is wonderfully sinister and Gareth Thomas just before he played Blake in Blake's 7 is good. Here's a 4 minute teaser.

I've never heard of this series, I think it was a few years before my time. Love how in that clip in the third post when the old woman melodramatically drops the tea tray and is briefly passed out, when she regains consciousness rather than asking her how she is and making sure she's alright, the men ask her to make her to make tea for them. However, they are not entirely uncaring because they instruct her to make one for herself!
