I remember when Corrie was forever slated in the press and Ken was nicked named as boring.Coronation Street star Sally Ann Matthews has commented on the criticism surrounding the soap's recent 'dark' storylines. The actress, who first played Jenny Connor/Bradley in 1986, was asked if she has caught any of the 'classic' Coronation Street episodes on ITV3, and she responded by pointing out that at the time, the 'classic' episodes weren't looked at as fondly back then."I do watch the classics, and every day I get stills sent from Twitter," she said. "It's great to watch it, and half of it I can't remember because it's so long ago, isn't it?"But it's great to watch all those characters that were so clearly drawn – there were fewer of us, we had more time, and television was a very different beast than what it is today. Percy Sugden was just a joy, and it was great to watch it."And also, there was all this stuff, particularly earlier this year, about 'Oh, classic Corrie is so great, get it back to the old days'. I was there at the time [in the '80s], and we were getting battered in the press for being boring and all the rest of it. [They said] it was a 'dated soap' because EastEnders was in its infancy."So we were getting slammed at what is now recognised as a golden age. But people weren't saying that at the time." Sally's character Jenny has been seen recently monitoring the movements of her love rival Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard), fearing that there's still a romantic connection between her and Johnny – and Jenny and Johnny are also due to have a dramatic Christmas confrontation.</blockquote>
