Comic Tommy Cannon has been declared bankrupt after struggling to pay a £800,000 tax bill.
The ex-comedy star, who shot to fame in the 1980s with partner Bobby Ball, admitted that he had been living 'hand-to-mouth' for a decade.
Cannon, whose bankruptcy case was listed at a court in Birmingham, once attracted TV audiences of 20million as part of Cannon and Ball and enjoyed the luxury trappings of an affluent lifestyle, including a Rolls Royce.
But since then the money has dried up due to poor business investments and costly divorces.
The father-of-five told the Sun: 'I haven't worked since Christmas, it's all gone off a cliff.'
Cannon and Ball's TV series was cancelled in 1992 and despite a brief comeback on I'm a Celebrity in 2005, the duo have largely had to rely on pantomimes and seaside resorts to get bookings.
Cannon, whose real name is Tommy Derbyshire, said that his close friend Bobby Ball had also fallen on hard times - but the pair are hoping to find more work.
He said: 'We've still got a partnership. Me and Bobby, we're still going - but not like we used to be. We'll plug on.'
