Before The Prisoner Patrick McGoohan was Danger Man, secret agent John Drake. 39 half hour episodes followed by 47 fifty minute episodes. Black and White except for the final two episodes that were to start series 4 before McGoohan resigned and formulated The Prisoner.
A fantastic watch, a performance that led to McGoohan being offered the James Bond role which he turned down.

My favourite episode is The Not So Jolly Roger, where Drake goes undercover on a pirate radio station that is also a spy ring.

The early thirty minute episodes had Drake work for NATO, and had a transatlantic accent, the character was refined in later 50 min eps as British working for the British government. Here is a thirty minute episode.

He had of course all the gadgets, including electric razor/ tape recorder and pipe gun.

Scenes from episode Colony Three, Drake is in Russia in a mock English village, a training camp for spies, learning how to be English. There are definite similarities between this episode and The Prisoner.

Australian singer Patsy Ann Noble appears in Not So Jolly Roger as DJ Susan Wade. In one scene her character puts record on turntable, record by Patsy Ann Noble.

The Network DVD release of Not So Jolly Roger has a bit missing, along with a bit missing from Parallel Lines Sometimes Meet. Both episodes are intact on the Madman Australian release.

Two episodes are out on blu-ray.

Like seeing Sylvia Syms. Popped up in Strange Report, The Baron (in an episode made up from two episodes of The Saint) and multiple episodes of The Saint in ITC-land.

I’ve met Jane Merrow. Susan Hampshire came up, while I was talking to Honor Blackman (who had also done a Danger Man and been a regular on ITC’s The Four Just Men).

Colony Three is out on blu-ray, on the the 50th Anniversary release of The Prisoner.

That is bad that there are scenes missing!!! What was Network doing? I had read about the missing bits from Jolly Roger but not the other episode as well!!!

I have the US set somewhere but the Network set, I was told, was the one to have due to quality of picture and it being drastically smaller to the region 1 boxset!!! But I hate to find bits missing on sets that are supposed to be superior. Recently I found a word bleeped out on a Danger Man episode on the Network set but intact on the US set! I asked someone on FB who was supposedly an expert and he just didn't know the answer??

The Madman Australian set has sharper image quality than the Network set though. Also has several exclusive commentaries plus a Koroshi trailer that is not on the Network set. Generally with DVDs, the Umbrella and Madman releases seemed to have been encoded to a higher level than the Network releases.

There are lines of dialogue from both Drake and Tarasova missing from the Network version of Parallel Lines Sonetimes Meet.

I don’t know. Well, the Network DVD release of Man in a Suitcase (which was one of two ITC series that came about from Patrick McGoohan quitting Danger Man) has a particularly very overly soft picture, compared to the Umbrella DVD release. The Network MIAS blu-rays are gorgeous though.

But Network messed up the opening credits on some episodes of their DVD release of The Prisoner. Rectified for the blu-ray releases.

Yes I remember the messed up Prisoner DVD but the next DVD release of The Prisoner I have been told was put right. Somehow I feel that Network do this on purpose so that we the buyers will eventually have to buy the Blu Ray editions! I have numerous Network sets which have flashes on the pictures not seen on other releases like Carlton. Timeslip, Danger Man and The Persuaders all seem to have this imperfection!
