PSM was aware of the drop in writing, so she left.
Samms was told to act "like a wimp" (which is odd, as PSM's Fallon was anything but) so it didn't work at first. (I like Samms but would have cast her as a different character -- maybe a Fallmont). By DYNASTY's 9th season, they started writing her more like PSM's spunkier Fallon, so it finally came off the right way.
Gilles' Fallon on nuDYNASTY is more like the original Fallon, but I stopped watching her show after a couple of seasons.

Liz's Gillies Fallon is more like PSM Fallon a businesswoman in her own right. I was saddened when they killed her off. As for Emma Samms, it was hard for me to take her as Fallon. She was not like like PSM's Fallon. The Randall storyline was dumb. As many have said, the Colbys would know who Fallon was at first sight. I did not like that storyline where a police detective was trying to pin a murder rap on Blake and Fallon sided against him. Blake should have disowned her.
