EastEnders EastEnders recasts Michelle Fowler

James from London

It's funny. For the longest time, recasting Michelle seemed like the worst idea in the world, but now it feels like, "yeah, why not?"

I dont really remember Michelle but have seen clips on Youtube. This new actress is like an aged version of the last Vicky. Same hair.

Others are saying the same on the net James but what has changed?

the old one was in it for 10 years so if I'd been watching then I would struggle with this. Altho I did take to the Sam recast but Sam was only an in/out character.

I think Jenna Russell will do the role justice.

Wouldn't it be funny if she had scenes with Michael French. :)

I don't know, exactly. I guess the old Michelle was such a long time ago now that bringing her back played by someone else doesn't feel like a "betrayal" anymore. Also, Kathy's back and Sharon's back and New Martin works and we've seen Mark Junior, so it feels like there'd be enough of a reason for her to return without it just being a pointless rehashing of past events.

I mean, a gutsy, middle-aged female character with pre-existing ties to the Square -- what's not to like? If we can't have Ava Hartman back then I'll settle for a new Michelle.

I've been trying to think of other examples, but I reckon this must be the boldest recast in the history of the English soaps?

I'm totally open to it, but it does feel pretty brazen.

Liking how Jenna has already settled into the role, the Fowlers feel very natural.
