We elect representatives who then make decisions for us.The electoral college was put in place to ensure that the interests of ALL citizens were equally represented.  Majority rule isn't always the fairest form of government (especially if you happen to be in the minority). Without the electoral college, Texas, California, and New York would pick our presidents and those who live in less populous states would have no real representation in the presidency.</blockquote>
