I'm not surprised as no one in my sphere has heard of or watched Top Boy. It's a word of mouth type of thing. I've been watching since 2011 on C4 where there were 2 series of 4 episodes. Very good they were. C4 dropped the show and Netflix picked it up. With a series of 10 episodes first and the current series is 8 episodes. This gave the production greater scope to really weave some excellent plots and subplots and broaden the whole show. The writing is next level excellent, the cast delivers the highest quality performances in a way that seems natural and effortless. The production is first rate using inner-city London as the back drop. The dialogue is sharp and snappy while being easily followed. Ashley Walters and the Grime artist Kano portray their characters very well. To the extent that you have sympathy for them...even though they are quite relaxed about pulling out a and pop pop pop. Alliances are made, double crossing and betrayals aplenty and the uber uber seriously unhinged brother and sister gangsters from Liverpool have just turned up. The Mafia is alright... but British gangsters are the best to even grace the screen. I highly recommend Top Boy... (drop mic, steps off soap box, exit stage left, resume watching)
