"I needed to get over it and be thankful for everything else" ..  I do this a lot  too.   But when you're in that moment and  living and feeling the pain and disappointment  it can be impossible to do and of course you'd had that dream for most of your life.   That was another hard knock for you being dropped from the team.It must've been an  emotional time for you back then.This was lovely to read because I didn't know who that caring "pest" was until your final sentence. <img src="data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7" class="smilie smilie--sprite smilie--sprite1" alt=":)" title="Smile    :)" loading="lazy" data-shortname=":)" />   I'm so pleased to read this, you went through so much turmoil for years and it would be incredibly sad if it made you fall out with Baseball forever, luckily in the end you  didn't.If we go ahead and make  this new Soap Opera about deliveries ...
