new EP throws in random stuff doesn't he?

Surprised they mentioned an actor whos been in Corrie before. The two soaps don't usually acknowledge each others existence.

Arthur Fowler answered a question about Hilda Ogden during a game of Cat and Mouse back in the 80s, and of course, Dot made reference to Coronation Street being her and Jim's favourite programme in 2010. Also, Nigel Havers had been around for years before he showed up in Corrie.

I was more surprised at how Kathy's tastes have changed since a year ago.

Bad continuity! This is the type of thing that ruins soap operas.

How can we invest when they say something then contradict it six months later?

Are you fuming @James from London ? I am.

It annoys me because it happens more than it should. I read they gave Lou Beale an irish daughter when previously there had only been Pete and Pauline and no mention of any other kid.

Not at all! People in real life change their minds and/or say things they don't mean all the time. There's no reason fictional people shouldn't do the same. I just thought it was funny.

Oh, my mother claimed to support Donald Trump in February. By September, she claimed to not support Donald Trump, and continues to deny ever having spoken in favour of or supported Donald Trump. Lots of my family members do that sort of thing. A sister of mine in March claimed to hate a mutual half-sister, said that they never wish to see that person again and asked how me how to be rid of it permanently. In November, that same sister says that if they saw that half-sister across a bridge, they would always go over to it. I never fume. It is not in my strategy options. Although the appearance of fuming can be useful obfuscation. Personally, I'd explode the bridge.

What about Kenny Beale?

That reminds me that Gillian Taylforth's character on Hollyoaks, Sandy Roscoe (where she is causing problems in current episodes from offscreen), now lives offscreen in South Africa, as Kathy Beale did. Sandy has six sons, two dead (one last Christmas, the other recently at Halloween), another two alive offscreen (off the show) in South Africa, one currently onscreen attending his brother's funeral in South Africa and the other (who only found out that she was his mum when she arrived on the show and he rarely interacts with his family) currently missing. Earlier this year, Gillian Taylforth joked in an interview that she has been a very bad mum in both shows, mentioning not being seen at her. Some of her Hollyoaks' sons have demonstrated her ability to be sometimes thought dead but turn out not to be.

Another meta-Nigel Havers/Corrie thing. He starred in the movie Chariots of Fire back in the early '80s -- the very film Deirdre Barlow told Ken she was going to see at the cinema when in fact she was round at Mike Baldwin's flat for the first time.

In the last week, Hollyoaks has mentioned that Gillian Taylforth's character Sandy Roscoe (last seen in Hollyoaks the month before Kathy Beale reappeared in EastEnders) is currently in London with her son Freddie Roscoe. Sandy has been arranging to take her two grandchildren (who she doesn't know) out of Hollyoaks and fly them back with her to South Africa, because their father had a fatal fall from a cherry-picker while being rescued from a ferris wheel, right after having got engaged. Mercedes McQueen referred to Sandy as "that stuck-up Cockney cow."

It isn't technically an acknowledgement of the other programme though in that instance. Nigel Havers was popular in shows like Don't Wait Up and The Charmer decades before he did Coronation Street.

There was that unofficial Children in Need thing they did few years back called East Street, where characters from Coronation Street and EastEnders visited each other.

I do like those little acknowledgements though. When Alex Walkinshaw made the change from playing his regular role of Fletch in Casualty to playing his regular role of Fletch on Holby City (going up the lift 160 miles away), he was once again working on a show with Rosie Marcel. Their characters on ITV's The Bill slept with each other and there was a quick two-line reference to it on Holby City. Hollyoaks has Duncan James from Blue playing policeman regular Ryan Knight and this week the dialogue referred to that and a Blue song, U Make Me Wanna with the dialogue "You've got the bluest eyes. They are so blue." and "You make me want to do bad things." Although shows referencing each other was a bit different with Batman and The Green Hornet, because not only are characters on each show shown to watch the other show but The Green Hornet and Kato also make some amicable and then not so amicable crossover appearances on Batman. I don't like to wrap my head around that one.
