So Kirsty Allsop, UK TV presenter, net worth £16m and daughter of a Baron has once again put her foot in her mouth.

She's suggested that younger people can get on the property ladder if they "give up luxuries such as their gym membership and foreign holidays and looked at cheaper areas"

Just how out of touch is Kirsty???

People would save around £300 a year on their gym members, and that means if the save for 10 years they'll have a huge £3000 - not bad when house prices will probably be around the £750,000 mark by then for a 1 bedroom garage.

She also suggests that people move out to "cheaper" areas...great advise Kirsty....are their any jobs in these areas though?

Honestly, the woman has no idea whatsoever of how normal people live and try to survive.

This comment enraged me. House prices have gone up way more than wages, as have rents and student loans. I feel lucky that I was able to buy my house in the 1990s because I couldn't afford to buy it now. Young people are also taxed more heavily than Ms Allsop's generation and get less back from the state in terms of services and support. The sneering at young people by older more fortunate people like Ms Allsop is shameful.

I used to really like her but ever since her “people need to go back to the office” nonsense she has been doing my head in.

Things have changed. By all means suggest cheaper areas to buy but don’t at the same time fight for “back to then office”!

Talent being scattered all over the country because of remote or hybrid working is a good thing as is the support of businesses in smaller towns which is caused by that.

Sorry for devaluing your London rental income, Ms Allsopp! Maybe the reduced requirement for expensive office space, a million Prets and Starbucks in London could be an opportunity to convert the unused space into housing which in turn would tamper the insane costs of renting or heaven forbid buying!
