Lionel Blair has been on TV for as long as I can remember. Sad that he has now gone.

It wasn't that long ago we were saying goodbye to his opposing Give Us A Clue team captain.

Lionel Blair played the role of the choreographer on the TV show the Beatles were appearing in in A Hard Day's Night. I don't think the character had a name but he was effectively playing himself.

I was thinking about Give Us A Clue when I heard the news about Lionel Blair and it's amazing to think that show was massively popular and got huge audience figures considering how basic it was. It was cheap to produce, just one studio and probably only 3 cameras, and they even recycled the Grange Hill theme instead of commissioning a new tune. It was just a group of celebrities playing charades and the public tuned in every weeks by the millions.

I remember him best as the replacement host for Tom O'Connor on the 1980s game show, Name That Tune which I have not seen alluded to in any of the news articles I've read.

He really was a wonderfully gifted all round entertainer who could sing, dance, tell jokes etc. - a rare breed these days.

He was also an excellent, entertaining house mate in the Celebrity Big Brother House. Can't quite believe that 7 years have passed since then. Time flies!!

I always appreciated that Nicholas Parsons thing he had where his image was something of an object of ridicule:

clips at 15 and 28 mins: Im sure the snowflake generation will be appalled!

He was in the Real Marigold Hotel and I dont think he liked India that much

RIP Mr Blair, a long and varied career
