I wonder who will come back for Annie’s funeral?

Hopefully Robert and Andy can somehow make an appearance,

Sandie Merrick and the Skilbeck clan returning would be awesome! With Annie gone it really will be an end of an era as the ties to Emmerdale Farm are finally snipped

I really do think it’s time they bolstered up the number of Sugden’s again, and Annie’s funeral could be an opportunity to do so

Absolutely and this would be a missed opportunity if they don't do something. Too much has been spent on the Dingles and it would be so much better if the producer would finally recognise that Sugdens having a stake in the village. I remember when Kate Oates took over Corrie, she made the Barlows relevant once again.

I hope it involves the whole village... I remember people commenting that when they did Jack Sugden's off-screen passing and funeral in 2009, they should only involve the Sugdens and keep out characters like the Dingles and Wyldes, etc.

Yet, when Henry Wilks (not a Sugden, but a close family friend) died in 1991, the whole family was involved. At Henry's funeral were the newer families at the time, the Tates and Feldmanns, and the Bates too, who had been in the show for 7 years. By the time of Jack's funeral, the Dingles had been part of the village for 15 years... More than double the time the Bates had been around when Henry died.

Wonder why viewers never used to be so picky when it came to newer characters been at funerals of older characters... But there you go... :/

Agreed, the Dingles worked better in the 90s/00s when they shared the spotlight with the Tate and Windsor families, and weren’t adding to the family tree for the sake of it.

Annie Sugden was the original matriarch who stayed with the show for nearly a quarter of a century, and was head of one of the largest families in soap.

I think on this occasion these episodes should be focused on the Sugden’s since they’re the first family and Annie was head of that family.

Most of the villagers today weren’t even in the village much less the show when Annie was around, Victoria is her granddaughter so she and Harry should be centre stage along with Sarah Jnr, Jack Jnr , Andy and Robert if possible, this is why it does need to centre around the Sugden’s and have other Sugden relatives to return to pay homage to the show’s first matriarch of the shows first family

When Henry died in 1991, a good chunk of the characters had been there with him since 1972.

Who is around today that was around when Annie was around apart from her family? The Dingle’s arrived in 1994 and Annie left permanently until 2009 in 1996 and I don’t recall any of the original Dingle’s ever having anything to do with Annie,

As for the Bates and Feldman families, the Bates had known Henry for years by the time he died and the Feldman’s had been in the village long before their arrival onscreen in 1990, didn't Michael know Jackie Merrick offscreen? Henry mentioned that Michael was in a singing competition for the village when he was a child in the 1970s

Henry Wilks' funeral from 1991, which also involved the newest characters, at the time, the Tates and Feldmanns, and was interspersed with scenes of the younger cast and their issues. A fine example that while we mourn the loss of a villager, for the rest of the village, life goes on.

The Dingles were known to the Sugdens, long before they appeared on-screen. Hence why, in 1994, Joe spoke about not having clapped eyes on them for years.
