Gerry Anderson series that I have mixed views on. There is undoubtedly some terrific episodes in this show, some of the most memorable in British TV science fiction history, the show looks great, even by today's standards it still holds up. The basic premise though is a bit hard to take. The Moon suffers a nuclear explosion that hurls it out of Earth's orbit and off on a journey into outer space. So far okay, the 300 people trapped on Moonbase have no way of returning and have all sorts of adventures hoping one day to find a new home, a planet that is Earthlike. There is nothing in space to slow the Moon down after it is hurled across space, so continues to travel, but it can't possibly travel at speeds to find new solar systems and alien worlds on a regular basis. Occasionally we see the Moon going through space warps to fling it into another section of the galaxy and into new adventures for the Moonbase Alpha folk. Also after a pretty good first series, American influences behind the scenes turned series 2 into a much less creative show, with monsters and a comic book feel to the stories. However as I said, some very good stories here, a good cast headed by Martin Landau and Barbara Bain makes the show enjoyable .
