I remember watching this in the Border TV region of the UK with my Nan, wasn't it on around teatime?
The ITV regions serving Scotland eventually moved it to a peak time slot, while the rest of the regions left it in daytime where it started out. Most of them then dropped it altogether in the mid 90's bar the likes of UTV where it ran until the end.
I didnt watch it but did know someone who was in the cast. I do have a few cuttings about the show as it used to compare a character played by Derek Lord to JR Ewing of Dallas - he must have been the bad boy.
It was filmed in and around Luss on the shores of Loch Lomond , an easy 30 mins journey from Glasgow by car
Derek Lord played Davie Sneddon, the groundsman at the big estate. From my recollection, he had an on off relationship with the "lady laird" Sam and might have had a fling or two. I think he was more of a brusque, no nonsense character than an outright JR type villain but my memories of the show are patchy.
On the subject of Scottish soaps, I've always wondered why River City (where a lot of ex High Road actors moved on to) hasn't had more exposure? To my knowledge, it only airs on BBC Scotland. It seems like prime daytime filler for the other BBC regions but I don't think it's currently being aired outside Scotland. Also, I don't think it has ever made an appearance on Irish daytime TV, which has aired High Road and Machair in the past.
