When ITV do retrospective or celebratory programmes about Emmerdale, they very rarely, if ever, go back to the show's early days.

When I emailed the archivist to ask about the 1977 fire episodes, they stated that they happened off-screen, but when I watched the episodes, they were very clearly on-screen (above, as seen in this screengrab), and had dramatic consequences too, in which one of the firefighters took a direct hit from a burning bale of hay.

Doesn't this prove beyond any doubt that ITV don't pay any a...ttention to these early episodes in their archive, or even bother to watch them when doing research?

Otherwise they would realise and see that a lot of the early episodes do indeed have highly dramatic moments.

It's always bothered me that Emmerdale, to most people, was all about Annie Sugden making tea in the farm until December 1993, there were plenty of dramatic storylines in the 1980s, and 70s for that matter, ITV should be proud of Emmerdale as much as its proud of Corrie.

Annie wasn't even in the show for a majority of 1992 and 1993, as she went for long breaks to visit Amos in Spain.

Even if it did have 4 extra letters in it's title for it's first 17 years on screen, it still should be celebrated in all it's eras.

Even Crossroads gets more recognition than Emmerdale, and that ended its run nearly 3 decades ago,
Emmerdale for me has evolved the most over the years, in terms of how its depicted Yorkshire life, the Emmerdale of 1972 is completely different to the Emmerale of 1989 which is completely different to the Emmerdale of 2004 and so on
I found Coronation Street was stuck in a 1950s (ironic considering it started in the 1960s) time warp until the early 80s and even then it had a distinct 70s feel to it throughout the 80s into 1997/98
Manchester is a bustling Metropolis and ever changing yet Emmerdale depicted changing times better.
