I think what happens is that the US House of Representatives then votes on who becomes the next president and members are not bound to  support the candidate that voters in their state chose. Currently, the House has a clear Republican majority so the likelihood is that they would elect President Trump. However, many in his party dislike him and dread the thought of a Trump presidency so nothing is certain.</blockquote>
