Chase liked to make sparkling wine whereas Angela did not. Given Chase's success with the product you would wonder why Angela had not considered the product years prior, purely from a business perspective of course. She didn't have to like it as a product.
Chase's favourite wine.
Chase is in the winery, doing some paper work. Cole arrives; (a scene from season 4, 1984 - '85):
Cole: "Where's Connie, I've got this inventory list she wanted."
Chase: "Oh great, I'll make sure gets it. At the moment she's going through Angela's varieties to try and come up with the perfect selection of Langwelized sparkling wine. I'll say this about Connie when she sets her sights on something she gets positively fixated."
(Langwelized is a new wine sparkling method, which the Giannini winery and Chase's FC division are experimenting with. It is a combination of traditional wine processes. The business pact want to create a crispier fruitier alternative.)
Cole: "So I have noticed. She seems positively fixated on you."
Chase: "I don't follow."
Cole: "Forget it!"
Chase: "If you've got something on your mind let's hear it."
Cole: "It's not really that complicated. You see no matter how hard I try to ignore it I see how you and Connie react when you're together. It isn't exactly your typical employer-employee relationship."
Chase laughs: "You have some kind of imagination."
Cole: "I didn't imagine it!"
One of the bottlers enters the room. The conversation stops. It then resumes, when he leaves.
Cole: "You and Connie embracing the other day. I work here too you know and I can't help it if I see things I'm not supposed to see. I can't help it, if I think it stinks!"
Chase: "You are away out of line."
Cole: "Are you trying to convince me or yourself?"
Chase ups his self-righteous attitude: "Listen I don't owe you any explanation. I don't owe you any apology. I think it would be better for both of us, if you back off and mind your own business."
Cole: "Oh great dad! That really deals with the issues, doesn't it? Listen if something is going on between you and Connie that means things between you and mom aren't too terrific. Now if that's not my business I don't know what is!"
