Now let's see. I'm not sure I understood it completely, but I think it's that she's really Sherilyn Fenn, rather than Audrey, and her writer husband is a substitute for David Lynch (with whom Fenn apparently had a fractious relationship in real life), and he keeps threatening to write her out of the story unless she gets her act together. When she eventually comes to the Roadhouse and is invited to do Audrey's Dance (which was never "Audrey's Dance" in the original series, just a dance that Audrey did), she briefly enters TWIN PEAKS and becomes Audrey again, recapturing her youth as a starlet, but then she comes to and sees herself in the mirror and realises that that's all gone.

Oooh, that's an interesting theory. I know she was upset with the notion that Doppelgänger Cooper raped Audrey.

I think it's going to make that first scene a lot more watchable when I'm going to rewatch it.
Of course it wouldn't have been possible to come up with that theory without knowing about their behind the scenes shenanigans.

I know she was upset with the notion that Doppelgänger Cooper raped Audrey.

Yeah, apparently she didn't want to be connected with that part of the story, but the way her part actually plays out - based on her difficult relationship with Lynch - looks even less flattering. And I think that's kinda cool.

According to various internet sources the problem started in season 2 of the 90s show as she had hoped Audrey's relationship with Cooper would become serious.
For whatever reason Kyle MacLachalan's then girlfriend Lara Flynn Boyle was having none of it (because...???) but I find it hard to believe that a "debuting" actress would have the power to veto a part of the story.
It's possible that this was happening when Lynch & Frost had left the show because of too much network interference, hence why she blamed them.
Regardless, it's true that her role became less interesting and that's also why she didn't want to do Fire Walk With Me.

Of course it worked out fine for Cooper because he got Annie - I really liked her - and her message in Laura's dream even became a plot line in season 3.
It's really amazing how all these things connect.
Laura's spontaneous scream when she was with James in FWWM got more context when it was reused in season 3, but this time with Cooper in it!

It's beyond nasty.

Also, I want say this: you can never resolve trauma, you can only move on from it. It does not matter how important you think it is - move on.

That's the only lesson I learnt from Twin Peaks.
