Well you wouldn't need the injection if you couldn't breathe. You'd be dead.

Sure, many problems can be solved. Depression, for instance. That can be cured, or at least be treated so it becomes more manageable. But all problems can't be solved. I think euthanasia should be legal. If you have an incurable illness that is too painful to live with, I feel that you should be able to get suicide assistance from a doctor, if that is what you want.

I think the problem with this is that if euthanasia was legal our system would use it to kill people who doesn't want to die.
Because the way people are perceived in our society now is that anyone above a certain age are only a liability to society and the sooner they die the better.
Sorry if that is cynical but the reality is that our wellfare society that was built up in the 1960s is bleeding out fast. Our health care system is being dissassembled bit by bit. Our system for retirement is a joke with the new raised age that expects our generation to work until we drop at the age of 80!

Elderly people should be treated with respect but they are not. Ageism is real. That's why we now have an anti-discrimination law against stuff like that.

Sorry to go way off topic here but no I don't think euthanasia should be legal.

Then as for the guy from Glee. I think it's tragic how this relatively young person was so tormented by the idea to spend 7 years in prison that he'd rather chose to end his own life.

Why would it entail that? You can easily install strict laws about who should be granted it. Old age alone can easily be decided not to be a reason enough. Maybe you'd have to have a diagnosis for an incurable illness and 3 independant doctors' approval? Maybe an added 3 months waiting period?

Euthanasia is legal in some countries and works fine, there is no reason why it couldn't work here as well.

We don't know how it feels to lose that part until it happens - and when you give up, when that spirit dies, well maybe you're already dead.

That's only true for most people, not all. Humans, unlike animals, can actively choose suicide which must mean that it's not in everyone's nature to live on as long as possible. That should be okay too. Not something to recommend, but we can't possibly put ourselves completely in someone else's shoes and for a fact know that it's in their nature to want to live for as long as possible.

You're right, there could be other reasons.
Terrorists, who think they're going to terrorist Paradise, or people who are mislead by some guru (often in combination with drugs).

But in the case of M. Salling I think it's about ending something, rather than going to some place better.

Euthanasia is legal in some countries and works fine, there is no reason why it couldn't work here as well.

Yes it's legal in other countries and so is the death penalty but it still doesn't make it right IMHO.

Also after seeing how the home care staff mistreated my grandparents and also how some doctors treated them during the last five years of their life I no longer trust our medical system when it comes to care of elderly people.
