Martyn Hett, a young man who died in the terror attack at Manchester Arena, was beloved on the internet.

Mr Hett was 29 years old and was described as "iconic and beautiful" by his friend Russell Hayward, who announced his death. "He left this world exactly how he lived, centre of attention," Mr Hayward wrote.

The young PR manager had hundreds of friends – and thousands of loving fans online, after a series of appearances on TV.

He created many hilarious videos from Corrie

But Mr Hett had already made fans and friends across the internet. In particular, he was famous for his Deidre Barlow tattoo, which he appeared on TV to have covered up – by another, much larger picture of the Coronation Street character.

HIs original tattoo was just the word Deidre, written on his ankle in script. He described how he and his boyfriend had gone for a haircut, "still drunk from the night before", and "for some reason I decided to get Deirdre tattooed on my ankle".

He'd picked the character because he was a Coronation Street superfan, his flat decked out with memorabilia from the soap. But he liked Deidre most of all, he said: "I love how common she is – a bit like me".

Mr Hett would go on to have his tattoo fixed – with a huge image of Deidre Barlow behind bars on his ankle.

So terribly sad. Will be interesting to see how/if Coronation Street work the attack into their storylines.

Corrie are dedicating a bench to Martyn. Isn't that really lovely....

Coronation Street will dedicate a bench in memory of Martyn Hett - who was huge fan of the soap - and all victims of the terror attack in the city.

Speaking about the dedication, Coronation Street said: "In memory of our friend Martyn Hett and all the victims of the Manchester bombing on Monday night we will be dedicating a bench on the Coronation Street set to remember everyone affected by the atrocity.

"The dedication will be planned in the coming weeks following an outpouring of affection for Corrie superfan Martyn and all those who lost their lives and have been injured following the Manchester Arena bombing.

22nd May 2017. We Stand Together."

I've been really impressed by how the news of this awful attack has focused on those we've lost and their families.

Me too. Thankfully, a horrific situation like this is extremely rare here, but as well as the shock and disgust there's such a sense of strength and spirit that is coming out of it.

That's what needs to happen and not have the media posting images of the attacker everywhere.

Agreed. It's a reason why the New York Times business infuritated me. Not just because their idiocy compromised security in the UK but also because it was the completely wrong angle to take anyway. There's been a lot of human interest in the UK news this week, which is only right.
