How are we supposed to feel about Taylor Swift?

PS: Gaga, Beyonce and Taylor -- all three Leo Risings.

Oh, those Leo Risings -- so many energetic celebrities, and the most preeminent pop stars, are Leo Risings.

Rising sign (based on birth time) is kind of the catalyst of the horoscopic make-up (some consider it the "mask," but it affects the substance a bit more than that). Leo Rising pop stars:

Taylor Swift
Beyonce
Lady Gaga
Elton John
Celine Deon
Lance Bass (does he count?)
Sam Smith (Sun in Taurus/Leo Rising, like Lance Bass)
Demi Lavato
Nick Jonas
Art Garfunkel
Tina Turner
Freddie Mercury
Steve Perry
Marilyn Manson
Dennis Wilson
Justin Timberlake
Josh Groban
Donna Summer

...and many more. And many wonderful composers, too. Even if the vocals were (sometimes) debatable, their performance sense is at an optimum.

All have different Sun/Moon pairings, by the way.

And the women generally live to be 135.

"Runaway" notwithstanding, Charlene could've maybe done it with the right voice and the right producer... which, obviously, she didn't have:

But don't let Leo Risings become heads-of-state (or run your hedge fund). The 3 worst presidents of the last 60 years (LBJ, Dubya, Trump) were Leo Rising (and don't get me started on Tony Blair!). And, funnily enough, nearly every celebrity who went after Trump publicly (at least during his first term) were also Leo Risings!

Taylor is just a tool for Corporate America. I much preferred her earlier stuff when she was more country lite.

The Swifties scare me more then anything.
Yes. The music business strips artists of their individuality and turns them into cookie cutter products. Sadly, commercialized, vapid music has always been a big seller.

Most artists likely don't want to sell out and become corporate tools, but the temptation of money and fame is too much to resist. Thus, they trade creativity for marketability.

The Swifties can get a little cult-like, but the Swiftie dads are the cringiest of all IMO.

I am a huge Eagles fan, and I am celebrating the Super Bowl victory!
It is an added bonus that Taylor Swift's team lost, and
the crowd seemed to booed her

She may be the world's biggest star, but on talent, she is a lesser artist than Diana Ross, Karen Carpenter, Linda Ronstadt,
Deborah Harry, Christine McVie, Tina Turner, Carly Simon, Carole King, Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins, just to name a few

She is annoyingly overexposed and just needs to go away for the next 5 years and then make a comeback album when she turns 40.

Am I already a Swiftie because I have all of Taylor Swift's albums?

The album with which she convinced some skeptics of her talent was Folklore, but it is precisely with this album that things went downhill for me. Since then, I've missed these songs on her albums that you want to listen to again and again. Her current album The Tortured Poets Department including The Anthology is overall worth listening to, but I just miss the songs that stick in my head.

That level of celebrity is a 72-hour-a-day job. It seems like an absolute nightmare -- who could possibly have the energy for it??

Some people do, I guess. But you'd have to be totally devoted to your craft and career, and the endless circus surrounding it ... And a little bit of unrestrained diagnosable narcissism helps, one assumes. You'd have to have it to survive!

Now, Taylor Swift has a song called "Elizabeth Taylor" only a few short years after Clair Maguire had a song called "Elizabeth Taylor."

Gee, what a weird and cynical coincidence!

Only Swift's song feels like it's mostly about Swift (as per usual).... Which song do you prefer?

I still don't get the massive hate she gets. Why do so many feel a need to take time to hate a music entertainer? Like, if you don't like an artist, don't bother with that artist. Why spend any energy on hating an artist when you can simply ignore? So weird.

Are people doing that?

I like The Life of a Showgirl quite a bit, but not as much as I hoped. Unfortunately, this is her fifth album in a row that isn't as good as I hoped, but everything Taylor does is still good enough and still way above average for me.

What I wonder about Taylor Swift is whether she's that smart and has a great instinct, or whether she has people around her who know the business and know the mistakes other top stars like Madonna and Britney Spears have made (I mean the musical mistakes), and thus were able to prevent the same thing from happening to Taylor. But at some point, the same thing will happen to her, just later than most other top stars. For me, the secret of Taylor's success is that she explored other genres before becoming stuck in one. She went from country to pop, which others like Shania Twain and Faith Hill had done before, but she took her pop act a step further than the other country ladies. And suddenly, just when one thought, especially based on Reputation, that Taylor had arrived in pop and will stay there, she offered some folk on Lover, after that suddenly there were two folk albums that caused excitement among critics. I think Taylor (or whoever is responsible for her success) assumes that this stylistic shift between country, pop, and folk will keep her on top for a long time, so far she's right.

Taylor Swift is an artist I'm not a fan of and that I try to avoid at all costs, but she is EVERYWHERE.

She must have a hell of a marketing team because YouTube keeps featuring reviews of her new album, even though I never search for her.

Her engagement to a famous football player was also highly publicized. If you're on the Internet, it's impossible to ignore her even if you try.

Her rich daddy got her career started and even bought a stake in her record company. Her career is the embodiment of the music BUSINESS.

Her image is one the gurlies really, really like. And are highly protective of.

Kind of like Ye Olde Sue Ellen fans. But different.

I actually listened to the whole Showgirl album because my child is a fan. I found it to be boring (but I don't like pop music anyway).

I could have gone my whole life without hearing that many details about Travis Kelce's WOOD though.

I have the same problem, but not with Taylor. She's just everywhere when she's released new music.
For me, it's the Kardashians/Jenners. They are absolutely everywhere, all the time. And also the Swedish version of them: the Wahlgren/Ingrosso clan. Not one day goes by....

It's often said that opposite of love is not hate but indifference. There are certainly some people who seem to put just as much energy into being anti-fans of someone.

Well, I, for one, don't hate her. (And her Leo Rising pop-star status is just assumed). But what is the all-consuming predilection her fans in particular have for her? What does Taylor's "image" represent to young(ish) women that's so desirable that has made her a cultural icon above nearly all others?

As her songs, though competent, are none too memorable. (Unless she's written one about you).

Taylor Swift is causing excitement all over the world, including in my home country of Germany. About half an hour away from where I live is a museum that houses the original painting that Taylor chose as the model for her video for The Fate of Ophelia. It's the scene in which Taylor is shown lying in a white dress in a picture frame before she comes to life and disappears from the scene. The museum has been experiencing a hype for a few days now, with significantly more people coming to the Art Nouveau collection and making a pilgrimage directly to the painting that inspired Taylor. The museum knows how to make the most of this attention, and a special event dedicated to Ophelia has been announced for the beginning of November. Anyone who comes to this event dressed as the tragic beauty Ophelia or in an outfit inspired by Taylor will receive free admission.
