Episodes 63-66 (...continued) With a captive audience, Sam continues to muse on life, the universe and everything: Still sore from being laid flat when Steven defended himself from Sam's punch an episode or two earlier, Sam pulls Steven to his feet and dares him to go for the gun, asking if Steven's foot is faster than Sam's finger. With one of the children under threat, Tom becomes the leading man, standing between the gun and Steven, straight talking even in the face of death: It’s perhaps the least convincing moment of the siege for me because it feels a little like an ego trip for Tom. Or Roger Oakley. Or both. Tom’s a convincing everyman. But this isn’t what everyman does. This is action hero territory. Or is it? It's an extreme situation that threatens the security of everyman. Maybe this is just what he'd do. Jeff Truman does such an incredible job of showing the wind knocked out of Sam’s sails, and things start to feel final as he makes his last stand It's a still moment. One of defeat for Sam and quiet heroism from Kerry who has finally chosen to speak out against him. As with the earlier scene in which Sam was taken down with Bob's words, the pivotal moment is disturbed by two more arrivals: Poor Sam. The two women for whom he says he’s given blood, sweat and tears both decide to rebel in the same minute. The look of sadness on Kerry's face on hearing her daughter's words is heartbreaking. But if Sam's heart is broken he means to make Sandra pay for it.
