Episodes 286-293 The War Of The Stewarts continues when Andrew stumbles into the road in panic and is almost hit by Celia on her bike. Celia is determined that Nigel should move in with her, no matter how much tongues wag, and there’s a fun greyness to her motives. She says it’s the Christian thing to do, but it’s plain that she is feeling more and more connection with him as time goes on. It seems, though, she’s underestimated the pull between Nigel and Morag as Nigel feels compelled to return to the scene of the crime with an ultimatum: Morag’s face registering first insouciance then panic as Nigel speaks tells a story. It’s clear that she, too, is attached to him. And his threat works, because Morag does meet his terms: Again, there is a satisfying degree of opaqueness. The apology seems heartfelt, and it probably is. But there’s no way of knowing for certain if it was motivated by genuine remorse; by the fear of losing a companion; or to prevent Celia from gaining Nigel’s companionship. Morag’s motives are perhaps a little clearer to us when it comes to Andrew. And he’s made a discovery himself thanks to Roo handing him a letter Morag had asked her to post: Putting two and two together, it’s Andrew’s turn to challenge Morag: When denial ceases to be useful to her, Morag changes tack: Creepy Andrew, meanwhile, uses the situation to bond with Carly: Carly, in fact, is one area in which everyone is clear on Morag’s feelings. Rather than hide her disdain, she wraps it up in little put-downs and delivers them unerringly And at the dinner party itself: They’re great fun, and Carly finally snapped back and walked out. Andrew, who failed to defend her from any of the attacks, decided she was behaving childishly. Rather than look for someone his own age, he started sniffing round Roo. Did I mention he was creepy?
