Episodes 296-312 (...continued) It never rains but it pours for Morag. After Andrew’s self-righteous exit from her property, Roo isn’t far behind. The catalyst with Roo has been Morag’s disapproval of Simon and subsequent interference. And that’s not all. Nigel is overheard speaking to a friend in a city restaurant about Morag’s memoirs which he feels will never see the light of day. And shortly after this they are paid a visit: There are a lot of twists and turns with this one. It’s a bit like that tape of the confession on Sons and Daughters. Lance and Martin’s car collides with the burglars and he dumps the discs out of sight where they are found by Kim Patterson and Sally. Sally ends up passing the discs on to Bobby. There’s even a bit of business with Morag ordering Lance, of all people, to find the discs, only for her to take a “comical” tumble. Which didn’t serve any purpose other than diluting Morag as a force to be reckoned with. This isn’t Alison Patterson we’re dealing with here. Morag calls in Bob Barnett who, as the archetypal small town cop, she views with the same kind of contempt she does Lance: Bobby opts to return the discs to Morag as part of a game of one-upmanship, forcing her to say “please” and the like: What Bobby has neglected to mention is that she, Frank and Roo have taken a printout of the memoirs. But this doesn’t stay a secret for long: When she realises Roo isn’t bluffing, concern is writ large on Morag’s face: Cornelia Frances seemed to be battling a croaky throat for several episodes early three hundreds. Somehow it felt appropriate after all the heated words and a woman who’s running out of options. Incidentally, there was a little namedropping when Roo told Bobby about the heavies who are taking such an interest in the book: It’s almost ironic that Kylie should get her first H&A mention at this particular point: four screen months away from the H&A debut of Kylie’s younger sister.
