Episode 313-323 (...continued) Some episodes after Andrew Foley Sr.’s departure, we had one final chance to hear his voice when Andrew read his apologetic farewell letter in the diner. That letter gave him the opportunity to speak the truths that he had been unable to say in person. And so it is with Nigel. Thanks to Roo, word reaches him that his final deception has been discovered, and Celia (slightly inexplicably) chooses to read it in the diner, just a table across from where Andrew had read his: Once again, Fiona Spence is just wonderful. She is so still (a world away from the nose rubbing, chin stroking, open mouthed self-consciousness of Peter Bensley reading Andrew’s letter). We simply see her sit there and absorb the words. And because of that it hits you like a ton of bricks. Retrogression, really. The full hair is straight once again and the makeup is gone. She’s “gone back to dressing like a nun”, as Roo put it. She’s also throwing herself into busybodying with gusto. Andrew is her first target: Roo’s attempts to salvage the situation were appreciated. It was clear she’d slipped up accidentally and tried to limit the damage by begging Celia not to tell anyone else. But it’s too juicy for Celia to comply. After visiting the Fletchers to “warn” them, she goes next door to find the man himself: This pushes Andrew off the wagon again, and he crashes a soiree at the new Macklin office where he forcibly dances with Celia and ends up decking Tom for trying to stop him drinking.
