It’s Celia who is highly critical and - more importantly - the person who defends Ailsa is Morag. She does so repeatedly and forcefully:</p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>The dynamic between Morag and Pippa is interesting in their brief interaction at the hospital. There’s still a degree of formality, but in place of the usual awkwardness is a warm understanding. As in her chats with Ailsa, it fleshes Morag out into a more rounded, human and likeable character. Perhaps necessary for her to be a long-term regular character. Pippa asks if she can help, and Morag asks her to take Celia away for a couple of hours. Pippa nods sympathetically and obliges. Back at Summer Bay House, Dodge decides to get some digs in at Celia:</p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p><img src="https://i.vgy.me/Kpsqz1.jpg" alt="" class="fr-fic fr-dii fr-draggable " style="" /></p><p></p><p>Poor Celia. There’s also a sense that it’s overcompensation and blame coming from a place of guilt. It reminds me a little of when Fiona Thompson suddenly decided she loved her son Terry and woe betide anyone who threatened that. But mostly I saw Mrs Kintner in <em>Jaws</em>, slapping Chief Brody over the son who’d been killed while she read her book on the beach.</p><p></p><p>Incidentally, perhaps a sign I’m getting old is how young the doctor looks. Google tells me Cranston Brecht is now a psychotherapist who is “very skilled with personality disorders and complex trauma”. These characters must have seemed like Christmas to him.</p><p></p><p>Diffusing any irritation at Ailsa’s hypocrisy, she openly admits her overreaction:</p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p><img src="https://i.vgy.me/2Di0rZ.jpg" alt="" class="fr-fic fr-dii fr-draggable " style="" /></p><p></p><p></p><p>Incidentally, I liked the direction of the scene in which Ailsa was told Duncan was OK. With no dialogue and only Ailsa’s unreadable response, the conversation could have gone either way, and it effectively gets the viewer’s stomach turning slightly.
