Episodes 391-399 (...continued) Over at the Blaxland mansion, Morag and Danny are bonding in line with his master plan for revenge. He’s even getting bold enough to discuss his late father with her: It’s from here that she asks him to move into the mansion, which he “reluctantly” accepts. Cue scenes of Danny menacingly brandishing a poker while Morag’s back is turned (conveniently interrupted by Marilyn). And he continues to poke when away from Blaxland. Donald has made efforts to bond with him since Danny is dating his daughter, and Danny looks for opportunities to find out about Morag’s weaknesses. He finds his opening when Donald comments on Bobby’s clearing the table to keep an eye on them: For a character previously shown to be an occasional language pedant, Donald's use of the word "phobia" to describe Bobby's cleaning is a little off. But it gets the plot to where it needs to be, which is the important thing. The conversation cuts away at this point, but the content becomes apparent when Morag receives a box of chocolates containing a nasty-looking spider. Once again, Marilyn makes a timely entrance and beats the poor spider to death with Morag’s morning newspaper. Morag is shaken but regains her composure quickly. Once again, there is mutual respect with a healthy dollop of tetchiness. Celia has returned from her European sojourn like a breath of fresh air: She’s back in time for the unveiling of the new store, which made its debut in Episode 394. I’m unclear whether this is supposed to be on the site of the old store or a revamp of Alf’s bait shop. It lacks the soul of either of them. Perhaps it’s somewhere else entirely. Celia is quick to jump on the Bunyip bandwagon, quickly making a huge profit by selling heavily marked-up Bunyip tea towels to the hordes of tourists now flocking to the area. This has blown Lance’s friendships with Martin and Marilyn. I don't know if SML is or was a real Aussie kids show, but the tone and graphics are very similar to some Saturday morning favourites of mine from the early-mid Eighties. Then, out of nowhere, there’s an unexpectedly poignant scene by candlelight in the empty diner, with just Lance, Marilyn and Mike Perjanik’s beautiful piano: I love how the scene plays out without Lance looking back at Marilyn.
