A Close Personal Lawyer for J.R.

I know the Ewings had Harv Smithfield, who was not corrupt and I think naive to J.R.'s evilness, and J.R. had Harry McSween to do his dirty work, but should J R. have had his own personal lawyer like Angela Channing on Falcon Crest had Philip Erickson and Greg Reardon around her all the time? I suppose Erickson and Greg were like the consiglieres, and I could picture Jock and J.R. having one and Bobby being left out of it until he comes across dirty work and uses it as blackmail to become more involved.

I always sort of assumed JR had lawyers on retainer for his personal use - although, since Harv handled his divorces (as my memory serves) and he was still using Harv 's firm in the made for TV movies, it sort of is implied that Harv was his only lawyer.

Absolutely, and I've thought about this. Someone as crooked as JR most certainly would have had a devious lawyer. To be quite honest, Ewing Oil should have had more lawyers. It was laughable for Harv to be the only lawyer at the table when they were going against the Justice Department. Also, it was a joke to still have Harv as his primary lawyer in the made for TV movies considering he was contemplating retirement even in the series.

If they'd only explained some of that in nuDALLAS. As Carmen, Southfork's lone cook since Jock & Ellie were first married, tells the McKay boys over her jalapeno coffee cake.
