The special features have special features, which is exciting. There are a couple of bonuses to supplement the Christmas specials, one of which I watched last night. 1972's Christmas Night With The Stars had a very exciting opening sequence, heralding all the upcoming stars: The Two Ronnies; Cilla Black; Lulu; The Young Generation; The Liver Birds; Dad's Army; The Goodies; Mike Yarwood. Sadly most of these haven't made it onto the heavily truncated episode in the DVD collection. The thirty five minutes (whittled down from an hour and twenty) comprise a number of the introductions and sketches from the Ronnies (who were hosting the whole evening), plus a few songs. Lulu & The New Generation lip-sync to Come And Go With Me To My Father's House with lots of jerky mod-type dancing. Cilla sings You, You, You then does a cheesy little "I haven't bought you a present" skit with Ronnie C. before they sing a comic song together in which they list their Christmas presents and name check just about every celeb of the time (including at least one that would most certainly be verboten today). This is actually my favourite part of the entire show for its sense of silly fun: Ronnie C.: "I got a bunch of leeks from Harry Secombe/With words in Welsh too rude for me to speak 'em." Cilla: "From Twiggy with her best/I got a see-through vest/She wrote to say how glad she was to get it off her chest." Anyway, here's the complete incomplete episode:
