The plan was for the show to go out to tender and for RTD to do the Christmas special to keep to franchise in the public consciousness and to act as a bridge to the next series. However, because of the way the last season ended, they would have to make some significant decisions about the direction of the show in the Christmas special that it was rightly thought it would be better to be part of the new series with the new production company. The Christmas special was therefore scrapped.</p></blockquote><p></p>
