Especially Joan Sims; Jim Broadbent; Patricia Hodge. But we’ve also had more of Vic regulars Julie Walters; Celia Imrie; Susie Blake; Peter Martin and Philip Lowrie. Plus Una Stubbs as her usual dithery maid.</span></span></span></p><p></p><p><span style="color: #000000"><span style="font-size: 15px"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">I’m really quite surprised to read how poorly this series is viewed. Victoria herself apparently disliked filming it, which is understandable given the location work and the fact it wasn’t shot in front of a studio audience. But I think it holds up really well. It hit the spot for me, anyway. </span></span></span></p><p></p><p><span style="color: #000000"><span style="font-size: 15px"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">Each episode is essentially a Vic monologue come to life. Instead of telling us about the thing that happened to her last week, we see it first hand. And it’s all relatable stuff. Ask anyone who’s tried to erect a tent, been stuck in traffic or attended a cerebral dinner party when they’d prefer to be home watching telly. That’s why each awkward moment is so funny, and why the moments where Vic becomes confrontational - refusing to indulge Patricia Hodge’s snooty dinner party hostess by entertaining her guests; getting out of her car to bluntly instruct the woman driving the car in front on how to take a ticket from a machine - are so cathartic. </span></span></span></p></blockquote><p></p>
