Big Bang Theory to end after this season

It's been confirmed that CBS hit show The Big Bang Theory will end after season 12 that starts airing in September. TBBT will by then have become the longest running multi-camera sitcom in TV history.

I love the show, but I think it's time to end it. The characters have developed so much that they are hardly recognizable from how they were in the beginning. And with even Sheldon married, it's become a relationship comedy more than about 4 nerdy friends. I'm not a fan of that development. The show isn't as funny anymore. The glory days of seasons 1-5 are long gone.

I agree. I think they've taken it about as far as it can go. All that's left is a girlfriend for Raj and maybe fatherhood for Sheldon.

I would say a baby for Leonard & Penny.

I hear it was Jim Parsons (Sheldon) who decided that he didn't want to continue with TBBT. The rest wanted to end after season 13. But TBBT without Sheldon wouldn't work, so they decided to end after s12.

That's a possibility, too. It's not something that I would see as a logical continuation for them so but it would be fun to see how they would handle it. It would interfere with Penny's drinking, that's for sure.

Nothing has progressed with them (L+P) since they got married, while the other relationships have progressed a lot. Something should happen.

And poor Raj needs to be given a life!

You're right about that. It's just that to me they seem complete as just the two of them. The show could easily have ended with their marriage but so much has happened with the other characters that it hasn't seemed like an anticlimax.

Better them than Sheldon & Amy. I really don't like how much they have changed the Sheldon character. They've made him just like the others. How fun is that?!

I suppose they consider that "character growth" but, yeah, it's another reason that the time is right to end it. Becoming a father would be the final step on that road.
