If you voted to leave the EU, I hope you are happy with the consequences of the of disaster that is Brexit.
New research suggests that UK households face being up to £1,000 per year worse off because of Brexit than they would have been within the EU.
The research found that the annual average increase to household costs after Brexit ranged from £245 to £961 annually. It also found that, for each 5 per cent that sterling devalued against the US dollar and the euro, household costs increased by a further £380 a year.
Poorer households will see costs rise more than more affluent ones because they spend a higher proportion of their income – after housing costs – on groceries. Wealthier households spend more on services such as entertainment and hospitality.
If only all the costs were passed on the those people that voted for Brexit and the rest of us were spared. In that scenario, their household costs would increase by around £2000 a year and ours would stay the same. Why should we who voted remain be made to pay for the reckless actions of others?
